You have:
- Completion of secondary education is required.
- Minimum of 4 years hands-on experience of relevant office building maintenance & trades services.
- Knowledge of building fire and safety codes.
- Good knowledge of English in both written and verbal; knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
- Ability to work under minimum supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to work efficiently within timeframes required.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy required in dealing with UNICEF employees and external parties.
- Prior experience working in the UN System or other international development organization is desirable.
Contract
This is a TC-4 contract. This kind of contract is known as Trades and Crafts. It is normally only for nationals. More about TC-4 contracts.

The main purpose of this post under the supervision of the Facilities Specialist (P-3) is to coordinate the day-to-day maintenance operations of UNICEF premises at NJ Warehouse, 3 UN and 633 Third Avenue, including but not limited to, basic repairs, painting, locksmith work, specification and installation of office furniture, office reconfigurations, assembly and
disassembly of modular workstations and other furniture, staff moves, set-up of conference rooms and events-related activities.
How can you make a difference?
- NJ Warehouse Operations
Ensures the UNICEF warehouse facility is fully operational at all times
Responsible for overall security, i.e., video surveillance equipment, opening & closing the warehouse
Coordinate and organize the storage of all materials including UNICEF archival projects, ICT, etc.
Arrange for asset and e waste disposal and recycling pickups including computer equipment which includes the retrieval, verification, check and scanning of assets for disposal
Coordinate shipping and receiving related activities
Safely Operator all warehouse equipment, i.e., Forklift, Pallet Jacks, etc.
Perform basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs in the NJ warehouse
Maintain all storage rooms and warehouse areas in an organized manner
Supervise repairs and construction works in coordination with AMS/FMS management
Arrange for repairs to all warehouse equipment
Perform additional tasks associated with warehouse housekeeping.
- Facilities Management Operations
Provide facilities maintenance support on an as-needed basis and at the discretion of supervisor to review floors, conference rooms, offices and facilities at 3 UN Plaza and 633 Third Avenue and ensure proper upkeep of premises.
Attend to service request as assigned on an ad-hoc basic, for furniture moves, repairs, installations, furniture orders.
On an as-needed basis, and at the discretion of supervisor, monitor on-site work being performed by contracted companies performing preventive maintenance, construction, alterations, carpentry, painting, carpet installing, cleaning, etc.
In conjunction with TC5 Maintenance Assistance to perform periodic review, re-arrangement and cleaning of storage spaces in the HQ premises and Secaucus Warehouse to ensure that furniture parts are properly stored, fire codes are met and all items are accessible for the maintenance operation.
- Routine Building Maintenance Operations
Responsible for all Building and Maintenance Operations at the UNICEF Secaucus Warehouse.
In order of priority, arrange for prompt completion of all necessary maintenance works at the Warehouse. At 3-UN and 633, tasks will be particularly assigned on an as-needed basis by supervisor.
Report upon completion of tasks through procedure and keep these reports and emails on file.
Office Space reconfigurations: a. When assigned by the Facilities Services Specialist, follow up on requests for space reconfigurations which include but are not limited to change of furniture lay-out, move and assembly of furniture, leveling, bolting, etc.; perform repairs, installations, relocations and distribution as required. b. Compile list of all obsolete and damaged furniture items at the warehouse with complete details for disposal purposes. Provide such list to Sr. Maintenance Assistant and Inventory Assistant.
Maintain stock and prepare inventory of maintenance related items such as carpet & ceiling tiles, filters, lock sets, blank keys, paints, miscellaneous hardware, bulbs, ballasts, engraving supplies, cleaning supplies, etc.
Arrange for internal moving of cartons, packages and furniture items within, and between 3UN, 633 Third Avenue and Secaucus Warehouse locations.
- Security and Safety Premises
- Perform in the absence of TC5 Maintenance Assistant inspection of premises to ensure safety and security of premises.

Education: Completion of secondary education is required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years “hands on” experience of relevant office building maintenance & trades services, i.e. electrical, plumbing, office construction, floor space layouts, locksmith, engraving machines, power tools, mechanical systems, floor space layouts, electrical installation, partitioning, office modular furniture, office machines, furniture repairs and partitioning systems a must (preferably Knoll – Morrison & ACME system 375).
Knowledge of building fire and safety codes.
Good communication skills and ability to work in multicultural environment.
Ability to work under minimum supervision.
Must have excellent organizational skills with ability to work efficiently within timeframes required. Exercise sound judgement in responding to requests, complaints and crises. Ability to work under tight schedule.
Good communication and interpersonal skills. Diplomacy, courtesy, discretion and initiative necessary.
Good team player and able to work harmoniously with colleagues also under stress and prepared to deal with issues which arise on a contingent basis.
Tact and diplomacy required in dealing with UNICEF employees and external parties.
Prior experience working in the UN System or other international development organization is desirable.
Non-US candidates must be in possession of a US G-4 Visa or be a US Permanent Resident
Language: Good knowledge of English in both written and verbal. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
