Overview

Support the development of socio-economic frameworks in Afghanistan.

You have:

  • Minimum age: 22 years old.
  • Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.
  • Master's degree in Economics, Social Studies, Finance or closely relevant subject.
  • At least 3 years of high-quality applied research and experience in the macroeconomic field.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in quantitative and qualitative macroeconomic data and social-economic analysis.
  • Fluency in English required, Level - Working Knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Familiarity with processes of UN agencies and/or IFIs is an asset.
  • Work individually as well as part of a team towards common goals.

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Description of task

Under the overall guidance of the Resident Representative (while the Deputy Representative is being appointed) and the daily direct supervision of the Head of Livelihoods and Resilience Unit in the UNDP Afghanisatn Country Office (the name of this unit may change as the result of the 2020 Strategic Review) and working closely with the Senior International Economist (yet to be appointed), the UN Volunteer is responsible for developing and reinforcing the socio and economic framework in Afghanistan. The framework would also support and align with a UN framework for the immediate socio-economic response to Covid-19 released by United Nations (April 2020).

The UNV will support with quantitative and qualitative macro and micro economic data collection and analysis, reviewing the existing socioeconomic framework for Afghanisatn in reference to the Assessing the socioeconomic impact of COVID19 at national and subnational level and other related research works to be carried out.

Under the direct supervision of the international consultants, the UNV will:

  • Provide support with methodologies and approaches to develop the socio-economic framework including tools, indicators, etc.
  • Provide support to the definition of indicators as per identified sub-areas, data collection methodology and tools, including data sources and detailed workplan for collection of necessary data.
  • Provide support with quantitative and qualitative macroeconomic data collection (primary and secondary disaggregated data on macro and micro social economic analysis and analysis, multi dimension poverty and assessing the macro and micro economic impact of Covid-19 at national and subnational level.
  • Provide support to develop the ‘living’ Covid-19 framework for Afghanistan.
  • Provide support to compile the feedback on the draft socioeconomic framework from consultation process with partners.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations, notes, briefs, when requested.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
