Result of Service The contractor will ultimately design, implement, and deploy several machine learning algorithms related to time series and NLP as well as provide basic data analysis outputs such as correlation and node analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities Within limits of delegated authority and under the overall guidance of the Chief, ICTS, and direct supervision by the team leader, the Machine Learning Analyst will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provides general office support services to help ensure the smooth functioning of an organizational unit.
  • Uses standard word processing package to produce a variety of routine correspondence, reports, tables, charts, graphs, etc., in accordance with institutional standards.
  • Proofreads written products for completeness and grammatical and typographical accuracy.
  • Maintains calendar/schedules; monitors changes and communicates relevant information to appropriate staff inside and outside the immediate work unit.
  • Reviews, records, routes and/or processes mail or other documents; gathers pertinent background material; tracks and monitors follow-up action as required.
  • Receives phone calls and visitors, and responds to routine inquiries and information requests, including drafting routine written responses, or routes to appropriate personnel for handling as required.
  • Maintains files (both paper and electronic) and databases for work unit.
  • Updates and maintains large distribution lists; assemble documents, reports and other materials for global dissemination, where possible using electronic formats; coordinates courier services.
  • Performs basic data entry and extraction functions.
  • Checks accuracy of simple calculations, coding, data, etc.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties (e.g. leave recording, meeting organization, reservations, office supply and equipment orders, etc.), including preparing and/or processing administrative requests/documents (e.g. travel requests, expense claims, vouchers, visa applications, etc.).
  • Photocopies a variety of documents and other materials.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of office equipment in the performance of basic office functions, e.g. photocopier, facsimile, printer, scanner, etc.
  • Delivers urgent mail/messages.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/special skills Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, information management, public administration, management, or any related field is required. At least 3 years of experience in machine learning, information systems, data science or related area is required. - At least 1 year of experience in applied analytics, business intelligence, statistics is required. The following skills are desirable: - Experience in data analysis and science methods, techniques and technologies. - Experience in open-source data visualization libraries, such as Apache Echarts, D3.js for producing dynamic, interactive web-based data visualizations. - Experience with self-service analytics and data visualization applications (MS PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau or similar), or business intelligence tools (SAP Business Objects, etc.).

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official United Nations language is an added advantage.
