ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The Logistics Officer (Retail Manager) will work in the Country Office (Damascus) – Supply Chain unit, in collaboration with other units of WFP as well as the Field Offices.
Supervision received: This post is based in Damascus Country Office and will report directly to the Supply Chain Officer (Cash Based Transfers) in Damascus.
JOB PURPOSE
Support the implementation of Cash Based Transfers (CBT) Retail strategy in the governorate to improve availability, accessibility and affordability of nutritious food by enabling a more efficient, resilient and sustainable Retail Sector.To collect, analyse and report on information to maximise efficiency of the logistics operations and activities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Within delegated authority, the Logistic Officer (Retail Manger) will be responsible for the following duties:
The job involves working closely with all WFP units to provide strategic and operational support to achieve effective outcomes within WFP’s engagement with the retail sector; increased purchase power and availability for beneficiaries; broader retail sector development; and application of relevant retail sector supply chain practices (plan, source and deliver).
The incumbent will be responsible for developing the capacity of WFP contracted grocery shops. Within delegated authority under the direct supervision of the Supply Chain Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
- Work with the Cash Based Transfers (CBT) Logistics focal points in the Field Offices, store managers and other WFP units to assist them with analysis and understanding of the retail business to meet WFP goals.
- Support the Country Office to increase the number of contracted shops to meet Programme requirement, including analysis of required number of shops and location.
- Drive the implementation of the Retail Performance Management strategy together with the Supply Chain Officer and Data Analyst – this includes developing a Retail portal to visualize the performance of each shop.
- Analyze itemized sales data, create templates to run monthly scorecards, ad hoc reports to support unit’s needs, category management, business analysis, etc.
- Support Supply Chain Officer and store managers in the establishment of buying clubs, consolidating quantities across WFP contracted shops.
- Drive the implementation of the Retail Mobile Application (price display, retailer rating and online shopping).
- Guide WFP units and partners to take a strategic and proactive approach to achieve higher standards in the retail sector.
- Identify most common and most pressing training needs for shop managers, develop appropriate material liaising with HQ and the Regional Bureau, build training plan.
- Perform other related duties as required.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: University degree in Business, Supply Chain, Management, Marketing, Economics or other related fields
Experience: One year post graduate relevant professional experience with Master’s Degree, or three years post graduate relevant professional experience with a first University Degree.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic languages.
DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE
- Experience in retail and/or wholesale operations, Business, Sales, Supply Chain, Management, Marketing or other related fields
- Experience with International Organizations/UN agencies is a plus.

- In-store experience in the visual merchandising, organization of products, pricing, management, sales, procurement, promotion.

- Experience in negotiation of FMCGs with Syrian suppliers.
- Proficient in MS Office, excellent skills in Excel.
- Excellent influencing and communication skills, both written and verbal.
