ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This position will be based in Damascus, Syria. The job holder will report directly to the Head of Logistics (Operations).

JOB PURPOSE

WFP Syria plans to procure locally and import around 125,000 litres of fuel per month to respond to CP distribution operations requirements. Operational requirements are varied (CP, commercial trucks, WFP LVs and generators, other NGO & UN agencies etc.) with multiple Units involved. This position will facilitate a more streamlined fuel management set-up for the operation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Consolidating fuel requirements (including holding capacity and assets)
  2. Developing standard operating procedures for the management of fuel and record keeping
  3. Developing a Fuel management proposal to enable safe, efficient and coordinated fuel services to operations
  4. Ensuring any Safety & Risk concerns are detailed and addressed
  5. Identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements (possible focus areas - faster & more reliable supply, reduced cost, etc.)
  6. Perform any other duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Minimum 3 years of full time professional work experience in fuel operations including within the Energy sector

Education: Advanced University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management or other related field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.

Language: Fluency (level C) in English language. Working knowledge of Arabic desirable.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of Fuel Management fundamentals
  • Monitoring & Reporting Skills; Project Management experience
  • Ability to work in a team, establishing effective working relations with persons of different cultural backgrounds

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The contract offered provides a competitive base salary and favorable conditions such as medical insurance, flexible working arrangements, Rest & Recuperation and Danger Pay allowance currently in place at the Duty station.
