What will you do?

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Head of Logistics and the overall supervision of the Head of Logistics, you will:

  • Coordinate logistics, port operations, transport, and warehouse management support services.
  • Gather market intelligence and analyse proposals in line with WFP standard rules and regulations.
  • Plan and lead on implementation of innovative logistics operations, initiatives and programs to ensure timely, efficient and cost-effective supply of direct or indirect food assistance.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and consolidate preliminary data analysis, prepare accurate and timely reports to support a WFP-wide view of logistics activities that enables informed decision-making.
  • Monitor the performance of WFP contractors and report on their performance.
  • Gather information on potential transport delays through to destination/port congestion to ensure WFP interests are fully covered and share this information with the necessary/concerned offices.
  • Coordinate with WFP Vessel Agents/Port Authorities for prompt berthing and smooth load/discharge operations.
  • Liaise with WFP's cargo superintendent company and/or Vessel's port representatives prior to vessel arrivals to protect WFP interests during vessel operations and to ensure full cargo quantity in good condition is always loaded/ discharged.
  • Review and be aware of WFP Superintendence arrangements to ensure adequate measures are in place for commodity quality control.
  • Ascertain logistics reporting, monitoring of dispatches, deliveries and quality control.
  • Report loss and damage of cargo. Intervene in cases of damaged cargo and arrange for adequate inspections, sampling, and testing.
  • Inspect and monitor port warehouse activities. Check stack count, stock rotation, cleanliness, insect control, roof condition etc to ensure safe keeping of commodities in storage.
  • Ensure proper procedures are strictly adhered to when disposing of spoiled commodities to avoid legal fines and/or penalties.
  • Mentor staff and ensure that all staff are adequately trained in order to achieve high working standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Advanced University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Management or First University degree with additional years of related work experience.

Experience: At least three or more years of professional experience in monitoring and managing logistics operations. Experience in commercial or humanitarian transportation sectors and/or monitoring and reporting on transport and freight market conditions and trends.

Language: Proficiency in oral and written communication in English and Somali is a must.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Experience coordinating supply chain activities with other functions and partners.
  • Experience in conducting analysis to support strategy design and implementation of supply chain operations.
  • Experience in warehouse and commodity management.
  • Experience in implementing supply chain improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in leading and coaching teams.
