Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs. This position is located in the Planning Support Unit (PSU), Planning and Sourcing Support Section (PSSS), Supply Chain Service at the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy.

The Logistics Officer is under the general supervision of the Chief Planning Support Unit.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Logistics Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Coordinates and provides logistics support related to surface transport, engineering, medical or supply matters to mission start-up/transition and liquidation.
  • Performs Asset Management functions for transport, engineering or supply assets and equipment; provides recommendations to field missions on the most effective sourcing options for transport, engineering or supply assets and equipment.
  • Manages the replenishment of assets of Strategic Deployment Stocks (SDS) and reviews of related asset and equipment composition(s).
  • Drafts and coordinates logistics plans and other documents supporting the implementation of logistics operations, as directed by Head of Unit or Section Chief.
  • Drafts and coordinates inputs to logistics reports, presentations, briefing notes, and other information documents required by the management, including inputs required by the UNHQ.
  • Liaises and coordinates logistics support with other units within the UNGSC, such as SDS, Transport, Engineering, Supply, Medical, Field Technology Service, Central Warehouse Unit and Procurement, and outside UNGSC, such field missions and UNHQ.
  • Ensures timely, accountable and cost-effective intermission asset transfers.
  • Liaises and coordinates logistics support with UNHQ.
  • Ensures that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained.
  • Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    Education Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or other relevant field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with additional two (2) years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Job - Specific Qualification Certification in Project Management such as Prince 2 is desirable.

    Work Experience A minimum of five (05) years of progressively responsible experience in surface or air transport, engineering, supply, or logistics operations is required.

    Experience in the use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is required.

    Experience in Asset Management of surface transport, engineering, medical or supply commodities is desirable.

    Experience in engineering equipment management is desirable.

    Experience in managing support services in United Nations or similar International Organizations is desirable.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable.

    Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
