Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Mission Support Centre (MSC) of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Juba. Juba is classified in the "E" category and as a non-family duty station. The incumbent serves as the focal point for the coordination of logistics requirements and technical support for an effective management of weapons and ammunition framework at the Mission level. The incumbent is required to advise the senior mission leadership on the technical and logistical support related to weapons ammunition and explosives as per COE Manual 2020, UN Policy on Weapons and Ammunition Management and the UN Manual on Ammunition Management, (First Edition, 2020) Responsibilities.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Logistics Officer, will be responsible for the following duties:

•Participates in or leads technical survey missions and verification missions to troop contributing countries. •Provides effective and timely planning, oversight, management and coordination of logistics support operations. •Conduct logistics briefing and presentations on as required basis. •Plans and co-ordinates logistics support to new, sustaining, expanding, contracting and liquidating operations and other field missions and other field operations. •Integrates and monitors the implementation of logistics support plans at all field missions. •Provide technical assistance and advice Mission leadership on handling, safety, storage and maintenance standards of weapons and ammunition. •Acts as Secretary to the mission Weapons and Ammunitions Advisory Board (WAAB). •Plan and coordinate inspection of Weapons, Ammunitions, and Ammunition Storage Areas (ASAs). •Coordinate effective implementation of inspection findings and recommendations related to ammunition safety. •Develop and manage a comprehensive Database for effective management of all data related to weapons and ammunition, including the ASAs. •Coordinate disposal of Unserviceable Ammunition. •Coordinate the rehabilitation of High-Risk and Medium-Risk ASAs. •Coordinate Replenishment of Ammunition for the military and Formed Police units. •Processing of operational ammunition expenditure certificates and claim. •Contribution to SUR and MOU development related to weapons, ammunition and ammunition storage containers requirements. •Draft Briefing Notes, Talking Points, Note-to-File, Fact Sheets and other relevant reports, vital to provide Mission Management with the updated information necessary for the WAAB. •Develop SOPs and other documents on Weapons & Ammunition Management (TORs, projects •Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs. •Performs other duties as directed/required.

Education High School Diploma is required.

Work Experience Minimum of 10 years of experience in planning, coordinating and managing logistics operations in military, commercial or international organization or related field is required. The minimum years are reduced to 7 years for candidates who possess a first level university degree. Proven experience as a military or police officer in management of ammunition (involving its storage, safety & inspections) is required. At least two years of experience in planning, coordinating and managing logistics operations in UN field missions is desirable. Proven experience in drafting policy and preparing strategic briefs for senior management is desirable. Proven experience in leading integrated military & civilian teams in managing complex logistic programs projects is desirable. Experience in development of Statement of Unit Requirements (SUR) and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for deploying military or police units to UN field mission is desirable. Experience in conducting information and data analysis and reporting on complex operational and cross-cutting matters involving several Departments/Sections is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
