What will you do?

  • Follow-up with stakeholders on a daily basis during vessel discharge, bagging and dispatching to ensure smooth running of operations.
  • Ensure transporters have mobilized enough trucks to uplift cargo during discharging and loading vessels.
  • Ensure stevedores and the agents responsible have mobilized enough labour force to handle the cargo.
  • Inspect the condition of commodities upon arrival and report any discrepancies as appropriate.
  • Ensure the required gear for handling discharge of commodities (cranes, bagging machines, weighing scales etc) are available and verify unit weight and packaging according to WFP standards.
  • Track the movement of containers from Port to the warehouse and ensure all shunting processes are met.
  • Maintain filling and reporting system of all containers arriving at the port and moved to warehouses.
  • Assist to file waybills and shipping documents secure file system and keep in orderly manner.
  • Assist to receive and cross-check stakeholders’ reports for correct data before port operation focal point sign and submit invoice team for processing.
  • Assist in business support activities of the port office.
  • Participate of monthly physical stock count exercise.
  • Any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Secondary school education.

Experience: At least three years of experience in logistics, transport and port operations in the humanitarian sector. A certified first degree from a recognized university, studying in logistics, transport or operations may be considered in lieu of the years of experience.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of work routines and methods of port operations.
  • Proficient in the use of office equipment and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to identify data discrepancies and rectify problems requiring attention
  • Uses tact and courtesy to give and receive information to a wide range of individuals.

Languages: Fluency in English and Somali language.

Terms and Conditions:

Contract Duration: 11 Months
