You have:

  • Completion of secondary school education with Mathematics and English as main subjects.
  • A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.
  • Completion of Auto Mechanics course in a technical college or similar institution with experience in both light and heavy vehicles.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in the relevant field.
  • Fluent in both English and Arabic.
  • Experience in using a computerised Fleet Management System.
  • Good working knowledge of the complete Microsoft Office suite.
  • Hold a full driving licence for all the categories of vehicle on which employed including HGV licence where employed on HGV repairs and maintenance.

At WFP, we are looking for experienced Logistics Assistant (Truck Maintenance) to join each of our logistics teams in El Obeid , Sudan, to be hired on a Service Contract at the SC 5 level.

JOB PURPOSE

To implement well-defined standard logistics/supply chain processes and activities to enable effective delivery of goods and services for all delivery modalities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Examine, inspect and report thoroughly on the condition, roadworthiness or safety of any vehicle or equipment, including functional testing and the application of computerized Service & Diagnostic techniques.
  • Service, maintain adjust or repair vehicles, equipment or components utilising the necessary tools, equipment and facilities in a safe manner within the standard job times defined by the vehicle / equipment manufacturer.
  • Interpret and implement technical service data and statutory maintenance standards to ensure that all work performed is according to minimum technical requirements.
  • Recovery of broken down or immobilized vehicles and equipment, utilizing proper techniques to minimize the risk of additional damage without causing any danger to the public.
  • Apply the work ethics and procedures in respect to maintenance practices and standards to ensure they are fully implemented and that maximum benefit at minimal costs.
  • Apply in a logical and progressive manner the appropriate diagnostic techniques to determine the cause or causes of reported malfunctions in vehicles, components or systems. Including also recommendations for improvements and modifications designed to enhance safety and reliability.
  • Supervise and instruct semi-skilled staff, apprentices and other junior staff in the workshop. Including also the requirement to attend any training courses on vehicles or equipment that may be deemed necessary.

ADDITIONAL KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Use safe working practices and procedures at all times and in particular to comply with the Health and Safety methods at the workplace Including the usage of required protective gear and clothing.
  • Loss or damage of Cargo, Spares, Tools or Equipment as well as Loss of Fuel in the care of the employee shall be deducted from the salary based on CIF value or Local Market Rate, whichever is prevailing. This can also lead to penalties or dismissal to the Personnel and penalties on the Service Provider or Contractor.
  • Travel occasionally, as required by the Organisation and perform any other duties as requested by immediate Supervisor.
  • Will perform any other duties as requested by immediate Supervisor.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education with Mathematics and English as main subjects. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.

Completion of Auto Mechanics course in a technical college or similar institution with experience in both light and heavy vehicles.

Experience: A minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in the relevant field

Language: Fluent in both English and Arabic

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Experience in using a computerised Fleet Management System (asset).
  • Experience in Computer skills, Good working knowledge of the complete Microsoft Office suite (asset).
  • Hold a full driving licence for all the categories of vehicle on which employed. This includes HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicles) licence of the appropriate type where employed on HGV repairs and maintenance.
