Overview

You have:

  • Completion of secondary education with additional training in Logistics, transport, data/reporting or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant working experience in transport and logistics operations.
  • Experience in handling temperature sensitive cargo is a plus.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Proficiency in additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) and/or local language is desirable.
  • Advanced MS Excel knowledge or experience with Visual Basic.
  • Competency in Analyzing, Learning and Researching, Planning and Organizing, Following Instructions and Procedures.

Contract

This is a G-5 contract. This kind of contract is known as General Service and related categories. It is normally only for nationals. It usually requires 5 years of experience, depending on education.

Salary

The salary for this job should be more than 4,389 USD.

The salary of a G-5 depends on the duty station. The minimum salary there is 28,689 DKK (~4,389 USD) Please note that depending on the location, a higher post adjustment might still result in a lower purchasing power.

This position as Logistics Assistant is located in the Logistics Unit of the Global Transport Centre in UNICEF Supply Division.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Logistics Specialist, the Logistics Assistant performs all activities in compliance with the UNICEF Financial Rules and Regulations, Supply Division Manual and other applicable procurement procedures in order to ensure timely deliveries of supplies including:

  1. In liaison with forwarding agents arranges for consolidation and containerization of shipments, considering program priority, warehouse capacity, purchase order delivery dates and special requests from Field offices & procurement services customers.
  2. Follow up on late deliveries and expedites shipments with the freight forwarders.
  3. Validates all shipping documents, bills of lading, airway bills, packing lists etc., and update relevant data fields. Distributes shipping reports and update internal/external clients on their shipments.
  4. Provide filed offices and procurement centers in Supply Division with freight estimates and quotations to ensure budget allocation.
  5. Provides guidance and advice to field offices and other centers in Copenhagen on shipping matters such as packing, containerization, consolidation, mode of shipment, routings, etc. enabling correct instructions in purchase orders by Procurement and cost-effective delivery.
  6. Management of complaints related to delivery of supplies and related international shipments ensuring complaint is registered with QAC, identification of corrective and preventative actions, and ensures consistent follow up with involved parties to resolve complaint
  7. Maintains Country Office consignee contact list in order to provide Freight Forwarders with up to date, accurate contact information to facilitate international shipments, including active follow up with Country offices for any updates or changes
  8. Any other duties or assignments as requested by the supervisor.

Education: Completion of secondary education with additional training in Logistics, transport, data/reporting or a related field.

Work Experience/Required knowledge: At least 5 years of relevant working experience in transport and logistics operations. Experience in handling temperature sensitive cargo is a plus. Experience in managing airfreight and, or sea freight operations.

Languages: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) and/or local language is desirable.

Other skills and competencies: Advanced MS Excel knowledge or experience with Visual Basic.
