This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The Logistics Assistant is responsible for assisting with the uninterrupted supply of affordable and good quality supplies, adapted to the context and through compliance with UNICEF’s policies, procedures, and ethics standards.

Under the direct supervision of Logistics Officer, the Local UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Manage the loading and un-loading of trucks and containers. • Carries out the receiving of shipments into the warehouse including quality control of palatalization, packing, and labeling of incoming shipments. • Undertakes the transfer of goods into the warehouse for storage. • Processes the picking requests from the warehouse. • Undertakes the packing of sets, UNICEF kits and individual items into boxes on the various assembly lines. This also includes the prepack and the bulk packing function. • Ensures the labeling, stacking and palatalization of the packed boxes according to the programme requests. • Participates in the annual physical inventory count. • Prepare payment documents for logistics contracts. • Supervise Warehouse cleaning and fumigation. • Support Zonal warehouses in absence of the logistics associate. • Performs any other duties as requested by the Supervisors.

In addition, the local Specialist UNV will perform. • Local samples management, inventory control and ordering. • Coordination of local vendors and suppliers. • Scheduling work for the UNOCA warehouse labors. • In coordination with programs participate in samples evaluations, prepare sample evaluations reports. • Create financial reports regarding funds utilization for logistics matters. • Collect invoices from Customs clearance Agents and in-country transportation contractors. • Prepare summary sheets for monthly payments. • Ensure filing system is in order.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
