Org. Setting and Reporting

These positions are located within the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) in the Mission Support Centre (MSC) in Kinshasa. The Logistics Assistants will report to the Operational Support Manager (OSM).

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Operations Support Manager (OSM), the Logistics Assistants will be responsible for the following tasks: Logistics • Assist in coordinating the required logistics support in the area of responsibility with different Service Delivery (SD) & Supply Chain Management (SCM) Sections, MilObs and contingents as directed. • Receive weekly reports from SD and SCM sections, draft the weekly logistics reports and submit it to OSM for review. • Participate in logistics recce missions and draft recce reports. Supply • Assists new mission survey/start-up teams with respect to properly and inventory control; surveys contingent owned equipment, evaluates requirements, and recommends additions and deletions to strategic deployment stocks of equipment and commodities. • Provides contract management support to more senior supply officers. • Verifies funding, bidding, evaluation and certifies invoices with respect to requisitions. • Acts as primary focal point for the production of field mission cost estimates. Transport • Undertakes research with respect to the preparation and compilation of the Aviation Safety Annual Report. • Assists in the execution of technical evaluations for long and short-term contracts. • Assists Aviation Officers in researching and obtaining data and documents related to field missions. • Provides technical assistance with respect to vehicle insurance and vehicle database operation. • Maintains Liaison with relevant departments and field missions with respect to the status of procurement, delivery, financial and insurance matters. General • Manages a small detachment/unit and supervises assigned staff. Trains and advises junior staff in logistics management procedures. • Initiates requisitions and performs technical evaluations. • Designs and develops relevant databases. • Formulates and monitors budget allocations. • Performs other duties as required.

Education

High school or equivalent diploma is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

A valid national driver’s license is required. (please attach a copy).

Work Experience

At least seven (07) years of progressively responsible experience of practical logistics operations is required. Prior Logistics experience with MONUSCO or other UN Agencies is desirable. Proficiency in encoding of data and in the use of MS office applications (Excel, World, Power point) is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the positions advertised, fluency in oral and written French is required. Fluency in oral and written English is an added advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
