Overview

Provide secure and timely transport for UNDP staff in Gaza.

You have:

  • Possession of local driving license classified as level 3.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience driving heavy vehicles; experience with solid waste collection preferred.
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development.
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others), email, and internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
  • A valid license for vehicles over 5 tons, including heavy equipment (compactors, excavator, bulldozers, crane, dump truck).
  • Sound security awareness.
  • Have affinity with or interest in providing humanitarian work for the IDPs, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN system.

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

This United Nations Volunteer (UNV) assignment supports UNDP’s Debris Project. Gaza Strip has experienced unprecedented destruction, with satellite imagery confirming over 174,000 damaged structures nearly 70% of all buildings. This includes homes, schools, hospitals, and roads. The resulting debris poses severe risks to public health, obstructs humanitarian access, and delays recovery efforts.

• Provide secure and timely transport for UNDP staff, consultants, and authorized personnel across Gaza. • Ensure adherence to UNDSS security protocols, especially when operating in low-risk zones where soft vehicles are permitted. • Facilitate pickups and drop-offs for daily missions, field visits, and inter-agency coordination activities. • Support logistics for project implementation, including transport of documents, supplies, and light equipment. • Maintain communication with mission focal points to ensure smooth operations and timely adjustments. • Conduct daily vehicle checks and report any mechanical issues. • Maintain accurate logs for fuel consumption, mileage, and maintenance records. • Ensure vehicles are equipped with required safety items (first aid kits, fire extinguishers, etc.). • Operate only in approved zones with prior UNDSS clearance. • Avoid high-risk areas unless specifically authorized and escorted. • Follow all movement coordination protocols with UNDSS, OCHA, and relevant authorities. • Participate in carpooling or vehicle-sharing arrangements when feasible, based on inter-agency agreements. • Extend transport support to other UN entities upon request and approval. • Submit incident reports, fuel logs, and trip summaries to the Operations unit. • Assist in updating vehicle status reports and asset tracking systems. • The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. A 12 -month contract with subsequent contract extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of ILS 6300 is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as Exit allowance for satisfactory service.
