This UNV assignment is located in the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia. The incumbent is responsible for the completion of a variety of specialized Mission Support activities enabling and maintaining a smooth operation in the area of responsibility. Emphasizing in the three mains subjects of the portfolio: planning, operational and reporting. Additionally, the Logistics Assistant at this level will report to the Regional Administrative Officer (RAO - NOP), at the Regional Office.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief of Unit, Mission Support or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Logistic Specialist will: • Assist the Chief of Unit, Mission Support to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate logistics requirement for supporting the implementation of mission mandates. • Assist in the operation and logistics activities in the Region in coordination with counterparts at UNVMC HQ and Regional Offices. • Assist in planning the logistics operations in the region and support Regional Administrators in identifying resources to meet logistic operation requirements in coordination with the Operational Coordinator in MSU and when required, in coordination with the Planning Coordinator, and the Information and Reporting Coordinator, all in MSU. • Assist in logistic and operational arrangements in coordination with other organizations involved in the implementation of UNVMC Mandates. • Prepare reports on all logistic related activities and their status to the Chief of Unit, Mission Support. • Will undertake other activities related to the logistics support and other related tasks assigned or as directed by the Chief of Unit, Mission Support.

• At least 3 years’ experience in logistics and operations management involving a big target group is desirable. • Ability to work and act under pressure in a politically sensitive environment with comfort. • Working knowledge and ability to speak and write in English is require, and Spanish is desirable. • Ability to draft and prepare report and presentation in English and Spanish is desirable. • Skills in document production and editing is desirable. • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including supply chain management, service delivery, the substantive component, and partner organizations working with UNVMC. • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel. • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment. • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines. • Sound security awareness. • Have affinity with or interest in democratic governance volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

*Note: Interviews for this position will be entirely in English and all answers must be given in English.

Colombia is a unique country, and UNVMC is a unique (humanitarian) operation. This assignment will be based in multiple duty stations classified as A by ICSC and this provides an exciting and enriching environment but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness and more stamina and commitment than elsewhere to make life comfortable and affordable. Therefore, flexibility, the ability, and willingness to live and work in harsh and potentially hazardous conditions involving physical hardship and little comfort are essential.
