This is a DRC - National contract. More about DRC - National contracts.

Are you passionate about communication and learning, especially in support of organisational change across different stakeholders? Do you have a good understanding of localisation and humanitarian and development programming? Are you a team player with a knack for coordinating processes, an eye for details and the ability to keep many balls afloat at the same time? If so, then look no further for an interesting, challenging and meaningful job, and join DRC’s localisation team in support of one of the biggest change agendas in the aid and development system.

Who are we

The advertised position will be part of the Localisation Unit within the Strategy, Policy and Learning Department (SPL) at DRC’s HQ. The Localisation Unit is driving the development and consolidation of DRC’s position on and strategic direction for the localisation agenda in DRC and is leading cross-organisational coordination in pursuit of programmatic, operational and organisational changes needed to better enable the pursuit of localization ambitions.

About the job

In seeking to provide appropriate, timely and sustainable assistance to conflict and displacement affected populations, DRC is increasingly shifting its modality of working towards one where we systematically support, facilitate and strengthen local actors and systems in their lead role in crisis response and in the advancement of durable solutions for people affected by conflict and displacement.

In support of the needed programmatic, operational and organisational changes needed in pursuit of this vision, the localisation unit is seeking an experienced, solutions-oriented, and collaborative coordinator to strengthen and support learning and internal communication on the progress of Localisation into all levels of the organisation, and to support unit-level and cross-organisational processes and workflows related to localisation.

Responsibilities include:

Internal & External Communication

In collaboration with relevant technical leads,

  • Design and maintain relevant strategic and operational communication processes and plans on localization (different modalities and platforms)
  • Extract relevant data and translate strategic plans and documents into learning and communications materials on localisation, such as learning briefs, fact sheets, best practice catalogues, case-studies, human-interest stories, short videos etc. for internal and external purposes

Learning and Mainstreaming

In support of and collaboration with relevant technical leads, contribute to:

  • production of training and learning material on Localisation, including workshop design
  • conducting data collection and analysis on localization-relevant issues, with a view to monitor progress on localization, to guide the unit’s work and to develop comms materials on lessons learned and best practices.
  • Supporting overall MEAL activities on localization, in pursuit of learning and mainstreaming

Internal Coordination and documentation

  • Support the HoU/Strategic Lead on project management aspects of the localisation strategic initiative: internal reporting, coordination of governance structure (comms and admin)
  • Take an active role in organizing meetings, trainings and events, as and whenever organized by the unit.
  • Support the coordination of strategic work planning processes (including development and maintenance of adequate tools)
  • Lead the administrative process and coordination of consultancy processes in the unit, in close coordination with the relevant content lead.

About you:

To be successful in this role we expect you to have demonstrable experience working with communication and learning, preferably in pursuit of organisational change, in a humanitarian or development organisation. We do not expect you to be a technical expert on localisation or humanitarian and development programming, but we require good understanding of both, and would prefer for you to be familiar with the inner workings of INGOs. We expect a solutions-oriented and collaborative coordinator, that is able to independently identify and implement relevant activities while ensuring inputs and involvement of relevant stakeholder. The position also requires strong planning skills, and the ability and willingness to administratively support unit-level and cross-organisational processes and workflows related to localisation.

  • Ability to work in French a strong advantage. Ability to speak Arabic or Spanish an asset.
