Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. The objective of the position is to assist the UN Designated Official (DO) for Hungary in the implementation of security operations and in all matters relating to the management of safety and security of UN personnel and assets in the country.

The successful candidate will be offered a fixed term, renewable personal service agreement with the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, located in Budapest.

Reporting Lines

The Local Security Assistant will work under the overall supervision of the Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia/Designated Official (DO), the day-to-day supervision of the Country Security Focal Point (CSFP) and the guidance pf the UNDSS Security Adviser (SA).

Technical Focus

Support the implementation of security operations and all matters relating to the management of safety and security for UN personnel in the country.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Monitor the security environment in the country and provide timely and accurate security information/advice to the DO, including information regarding compliance with United Nations security policies, practices and procedures;
  • Monitor the implementation of security and safety measures; assess the quality of services; draft reports and recommendations to improve the security and safety measures including country security and contingency plans (fire plan, building evacuation plan, etc.);
  • Maintain close security coordination with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security and local security focal points;
  • Respond to UN staff security emergencies and provide and/or organize immediate assistance; liaise with host country law enforcement agencies in cases of incidents where UN personnel or their family members are involved;
  • Update and maintain databases such as contact details, Warden System, updated guidelines, measures, standards and policies, staff lists, routine and confidential correspondence, files/documents compiling etc.;
  • Draft reports in a timely manner according to UN Security Management System guidelines that include reporting/updating security incidents/database;
  • Conduct exercises and regular security checks, as well as the administration of Emergency Communications System;
  • Assist security and non-security staff in the entire range of security services including drills and exercises on the Contingency Plans and contribute to increasing awareness on safety and security;
  • Monitor, update and maintain the records of Minimum Operating Security Standards and Residential Security Measures compliance levels in the Country;
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Secondary school education;
  • Five years of relevant experience with a national or international police force, armed forces, a private security organization or security service of a large company;
  • Working level of English;
  • National or resident of Hungary
