Result of Service

The worktime will entail 63 working days between 1 March and 3 June 2024

Under the supervision of the Programme Officer within RSSAEAP, the IC will: • Participate in provision of support to the UNODC Field Offices in the region, in particular the Regional Office for South Asia and the Programme Office in Sri Lanka; • Monitor timely completion of and review and follow-up on UNODC regular reporting obligations and exercises, including communication and M&E outputs; • Support the preparation and follow-up of these reporting obligations; • Support organizational arrangements related to the work of the FOs, including outreach to external and internal counterparts; • Assist in the development of strategic communication tools, the management and maintenance of existing newsletter and social media outlets; • Assist in the production of analyses of drugs and crime challenges and threats in South Asia, in particular Sri Lanka; • Assist in undertaking research activities including collecting, organizing and monitoring the collection of data, and analyzing data on drugs and crime in South Asia, in particular Sri Lanka; • Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g., draft background papers, power point presentations, analytical notes, briefing notes, communication pieces, factsheets, etc; • Provide regular regional/national analysis for internal and external use;

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Background of the assignment:

The post is located in the Regional Section for South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific (RSSAEAP), Division for Operations (DO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria). The JIC will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer and the overall guidance of the Chief of the Regional Section for South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific (RSSAEAP). UNODC’s mission is to contribute to global peace and security, human rights and development by making the world safer from drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism. The UNODC field office spas across all continents and regions and covers the wider range of services in all UNODC mandate areas. RSSAEAP is the regional desk at UNODC HQ which supports the work of the Field Offices in the respective regions where UNODC delivers technical assistance and advisory services to the Member States. Within UNODC’s Division for Operations, RSSAEAP supports two regional offices: the Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA), located in New Delhi and with field presence in Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, and the Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (ROSEAP), located in Bangkok and with field presence in Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Additionally, the UNODC Global Maritime Crime Programme is located in Sri Lanka, while a Centre of Excellence for Statistics on Crime and Criminal Justice in Asia and the Pacific (UNODC-KOSTAT) is based in the Republic of Korea.   1. Purpose of the assignment:

The Individual Contractor will support RSSAEAP with particular focus on supporting the UNODC work in South Asia, including monitoring, reporting and programming within the specific funding source, which supports this post. This will include preparation of related research, reports and other written outputs in various forms (incl. power point presentations, summaries of activities, minutes of events, inputs into reporting products, draft communication products, factsheets, background papers and similar), among other functions.

Qualifications/special skills

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Limited experience in the area of general office support, writing/drafting briefings, reports, fact sheets, research papers, preparing presentations etc. or other relevant areas is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
