This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

UN Women Afghanistan focuses on reaching women who are most at risk and marginalized populations, in particular gender-based violence survivors, female headed households, women IDPs and returnees, women with disabilities, older women, and adolescent girls. Women, who comprise more than half of the population in Afghanistan have been hit hard by this crisis, especially women who are unemployed, women suffering from poverty, women-headed households, and women in rural areas who’s their livelihoods and income generation activities have been disrupted or lost. These women will be supported through livelihoods interventions.

UN Women will support women in target areas, including in host communities and informal settlements, to secure alternative sources of income through livelihoods opportunities including Cash Based Interventions and development of capacities and skills. This will provide women with emergency livelihood protection and support—urgently needed given a looming economic collapse and associated crisis in the formal banking sector. This is in addition to Cash for Work and unconditional cash transfers which will be addressed to specific groups of women depending on the extent of needs mainly women- headed households across the country.

Under the oversight of the Country representative and the Deputy Country Representative, directly reporting to the Programme Manager, The Livelihoods Analyst will be contributing to livelihoods programming modalities design, implementation, and close follow up with partners.

Under the overall guidance from the Country Representative and Deputy Representative, the UNV will report to the WEE Programme Manager, and will undertake the following tasks:

• Supports the implementation of ongoing programmatic initiatives with a specific focus on the Joint Programme. • Contributes to the development of new Livelihood’s initiatives. • Supports partnership development with other UN agencies, experts, multi-lateral and bi later institutions and civil society organizations ensuring timely and efficient delivery of inputs related to the assigned portfolio. • Supports Programme/projects monitoring and evaluation according to results-based management requirements. • Supports policy analysis and research and identifies entry points for strengthening UN Women’s programming in women’s economic empowerment. • Supports annual reporting processes in relation to the UNWOMEN. • Participates in UNWOMEN coordination meetings and in particular the Cash and Voucher Working Group as well as the Food Security and Livelihoods Cluster • Supports collection of data and analysis and research. • Supports relevant, high-impact advocacy activities and campaigns with key partners of the UN Joint Programme. • Collects knowledge on current and emerging trends by gathering relevant information on programmes, projects, strategies, approaches, and ongoing experience for lessons learned, best practices at regional and global level. • Participates in program monitoring visits at the field level and helps to prepare reports • Contributes to knowledge networks and communities of practice

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers Programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day). • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results, and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Entitlement;
