Result of Service To provide support to the Economist through being a liaison between NPC and the UNRCO on all matters related to the SDGs and the national planning process.

Duties and Responsibilities The UN RCO in Botswana , provides inter-agency coordination and support to joint program development and implementation, and supports joint UN advocacy efforts. The UN RCO is also overseeing the implementation of the 2022-26 UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNDSCF), which focuses on inequality and leaving no-one behind. One of the overarching key priorities is also to align Agenda 2030 with national development priorities as well as with Africa Union’s Agenda 2063. The newly established National Planning Commission (NPC), which houses the SDG secretariat is also responsible for leading the National Development Plan process. The NPC falls under and reports directly to the President’s Office. Currently, Botswana has embarked on a transitional development plan and will be drafting its next (12th) national development plan, which comes into effect in 2025.

The UN engages closely with the NPC on the national development plan process as well as on the SDGs. The UN RCO co-chairs the SDG task force as well as the National Steering Committee on the SDGs with the NPC.

Under the supervision of the Economist, the individual contractor will: - As liaison officer between the UN and the NPC, ensure that UN is represented on relevant 12th national plan meetings and events. - Conduct analysis of opportunities and challenges (including political economy) as they relate to national planning. Also highlight relevant data gaps. - Ensure RC has access to timely statements, talking points, briefing notes to facilitate advocacy, outreach and leadership on these issues. - Provide support and guidance on alignment between 12th NDP and the UNSDCF.

Qualifications/special skills High School diploma is required. First Level Degree is desirable. A minimum of 3 years experience working on socioeconomic issues as well as working in government or an international development organization required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desired.
