You have:
- University degree in social or political sciences, international relations, public relations or related field relevant to the work of the Organization.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in development work and/or designing and managing projects, interacting with social partners and with governments, international organisations, research institutions, civil society and the private sector.
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other official languages of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) for Consultants.
Organizational Setting
FAO Liaison office with the European Union and Belgium is responsible for strengthening FAO’s visibility, interaction and advocacy with key partners, including the European Union and the Permanent Representations of the EU Member States, the ACP Secretariat and their Permanent Representations Member States, and Non-state Actors in Belgium.
The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Director of the Liaison Office, and in close collaboration with other colleagues, by ensuring the liaison with different EU institutions, such as the European Commission and the European Parliament.
Reporting Lines
The Liaison Specialist with the European Union reports to the Director of the Liaison Office, Brussels, Belgium.
Technical Focus
Coordination of EU activities with FAO strategic programmes and technical departments.
Tasks and responsibilities
The specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Facilitate the office’s liaison work with different EU institutions, with particular focus – but no restricted to - on the following:
- Support the liaison with the European Commission and its different Directorates (INTPA, AGRI, ECHO, SANTE, CLIMA, ENVI, MARE) by following their main dossiers related to FAO’s mandate as well as by helping give visibility to FAO’s projects and dossiers.
- Seek resource mobilization opportunities in close coordination with PSR and its EU team.
- Support the liaison work and facilitate the day-to-day relations with the European Parliament with particular focus on establishing and maintaining relations with Members of Parliament and Members of the European Parliamentary Alliance against Hunger and Malnutrition and their offices, as well as the operation of the Secretariat of the Alliance, including the organization of events and virtual missions;
- Policy research and monitoring, preparation of briefs and other related asked as required
- Research and monitor EU policy/partner information on selected issues related to FAO’s mandate, especially focusing on ongoing files from different EU institutions;
- Prepare policy briefs including for colleagues in headquarters, decentralized offices and speaking points for the office.
- Attendance and reporting on meetings related to FAO’s mandate
- Attend specific meetings and events (conferences, symposia, round tables, and seminars) related to FAO’s global mandate and ongoing Parliamentary and Council files; particular focus will be given to the attendance of meetings of Parliamentary Committees and other meetings organized by Members of the European Parliament;
- Produce brief reports on these meetings/events and disseminate information as needed to FAO colleagues.
- Outreach, advocacy and communication
- Support the external communications work of the office, namely by providing inputs for the office’s newsletter and to feed into the office’s Twitter account and homepage, including activities related on youth;
Perform any other duties as requested.
