You have:

  • Advanced university degree in Public Relations, social sciences, public administration, international relations, international development, communications, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in partnership building, donor relations, resource mobilization, programme management, public information, journalism, communication, media affairs, campaigns or events of public interest or a related area, preferably in the international development context.
  • Work experience in the Gulf region is an asset.
  • Ability to build alliances and partnership with stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with sustainable development concepts and theories would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of UN or UNFPA programming policies and procedures would be an asset.
  • English - Fluent.
  • Arabic - Working Knowledge.

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the joint supervision of the UNFPA GCC Representative and the UN Resident Coordinator in Bahrain, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Maintain effective liaison with key national partners in Bahrain and contribute toward proactive coordination, monitoring and facilitation of UNFPA's timely response, and act as a direct entry point for donors, building institutional relationships.
  • In close coordination with the Sub-regional Office for the GCC, develop strategies and initiatives that contribute to establishing rapport with national partners in Bahrain and promoting the visibility of UNFPA within the UNCT, with the local media and other stakeholders, including potential donors and institutional partners from government.
  • In close coordination with the RCO Bahrain and the GCC Communication Officer and Regional Communication Advisor, substantively contribute to and support the formulation of communication strategies and events that enhance advocacy and resource mobilization across the region.
  • In close coordination with the GAA Office, identify opportunities for inter-agency collaboration and joint support for programmes and activities related to UNFPA mandates within the UN country programme of Bahrain.
  • Support the logistical and substantive preparation of UNFPA-related missions, events, meetings and other consultations with donors and partners.
  • Support and facilitate preparations for UNFPA participation in relevant workshops, Conferences and events in close cooperation with the GCC Office and UNFPA Regional Office.
  • Advise and support the GCC Office on resource mobilization in Bahrain, by providing regular updates to GCC donor profiles, databases (e.g. contacts management) and donor intelligence in Bahrain/GCC; preparing new GCC donor profiles with GCC office, as well as on-the-ground mapping; drafting proposals and concept notes for donors; and staying abreast of priorities, procedures, guidelines and funding modalities related to possible donors and partners in Bahrain, including the private sector and philanthropic foundations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the UNFPA GCC Office Representative.
