Duties and Responsibilities - Assist the Legal Officer/ Staff Assistance in drafting submissions before UNRWA Dispute Tribunal (UNRWA DT) and United Nations Appeals Tribunal (UNAT) including, but not limited to, Applications/Appeals (briefs), Motions and Replies; - Conduct legal research on jurisprudence of administrative tribunals - UNRWA DT, United Nations Dispute Tribunal, UNAT, the Former Administrative Tribunal - as well as Agency Rules, Regulations and all Administrative Issuances as required to legally support arguments in the representation or advisement of staff members; - Advise staff honestly, generally or specifically, as needed, on personnel matters; - Draft memoranda for official office use on frequently or commonly asked issues for future reference. These memos will create a database of information to minimize time on research in future cases; - Conduct administrative and logistical tasks such as, but not limited to, taking notes for the file, minutes of meetings, follow up with staff members by phone, e-mail or in person; - Represent Applicants in oral hearings and status conferences when required before the UNRWA DT and the UNAT; - Establish and maintain relationships and coordinate with the Registrars/Admin Officers of UNRWA DT and UNAT; - Establish and maintain relationships with UNRWA Managers across departments and in Human Resources; - Identify opportunities to settle or mediate cases; - Any other task assigned by the Legal Officer (Staff Assistance) that he feels is within the abilities and expertise of the Consultant.

Qualifications/special skills - University degree in Law from an accredited educational institution (e.g. Juris Doctorate or LLM); At least three years of relevant experience including 2 years international experience outside of the candidate home country, country of citizenship and country of permanent residence. Experience communicating complex legal issues to audiences who do not have the technical background; Experience drafting complex legal arguments; Knowledge of Palestine Refugee situation and the challenges they face.

Languages Excellent command of the English language;
