Job Overview:

Under the Supervision of the Legal Compliance Officer, the Legal Compliance Associate will be responsible for assisting the Office of General Counsel in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of the organization’s operations and compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Based at IRC’s iHub in Nairobi (or remote US location), the Legal Compliance Associate will liaise with colleagues at IRC’s New York Headquarters, our regional hubs, in IRC’s international offices and in our resettlement offices in supporting Anti-Terrorism Compliance.

Major Responsibilities:

- Assist in ensuring IRC complies with and meets its due diligence requirements arising under the laws of the United States and other countries relating to economic sanctions and similar regulations, particularly around engaging in third-party transactions and Anti-Terrorism Compliance (“ATC”) measures. - Primary day-to-day responsibility of monitoring and running ATC checks using IRC’s internal compliance systems and interfacing with the LexisNexis Bridger screening tool. - Working with the Legal Compliance Officer and Legal Compliance Manager to update and maintain IRC’s ATC training materials and manuals. - Assist the Legal Compliance Team to prepare and implement a training program on ATC compliance and provide training and education to IRC staff concerning the ATC process and requirements. - Liaise with operational units, including Global Supply Chain, Human Resources, Awards Management Unit, Crisis Response, Recovery & Development (CRRD) and Resettlement, Asylum and Integration (RAI) in resolving issues with ATC check requests, questions, trainings, and daily operations. - Support the Legal Compliance Officer and Global Supply Chain Integra team with Integra related ATC check requests and system improvements. - Collaborate with the Legal Compliance Officer and operational units to maintain, update and streamline the ATC process. - Other projects and duties as assigned by General Counsel or Legal Compliance Officer.

Job Requirements:

· 2-3 years’ experience as a compliance officer, paralegal, or equivalent work experience.

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; related graduate degree a plus.

· Knowledge/experience with LexisNexis Bridger and other legal research databases and highly proficient with Microsoft Office suite.

· Demonstrated expertise with legal research and excellent writing skills.

· Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills: must be a team player; the proven ability to communicate and liaise effectively with colleagues and third parties in an international, multi-cultural environment.

· Superior organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time; should be able to plan for and manage multiple projects and multi-faceted workload and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

· Strong analytic problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

· Strong work ethic

· French, Arabic or Spanish language capability is a plus.

Working Environment: Standard office work environment. Workdays follow the Nairobi, Kenya schedule (Saturday/Monday-Thursday).
