The teachers work under the supervision of the Learning & Development team, of the Centre for Learning and Partnership Development, within the Bureau of Human Resources Management. The language teaching programme improves the language abilities of staff and other participants and promotes linguistic balance and multilingualism within UNESCO through its offer of language courses in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. UNESCO maintains a pool of part-time language teachers to meet the on-going and ad-hoc needs of language teaching. Long Description ---------------- The part-time language teachers help the participants of the language programme to develop more effective communication skills, particularly those related to the professional domain, in any of the six official languages. These duties include the following: - Teaching Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish general language courses at all levels, either face-to-face, online or in a blended format. Language courses should cover production and receptive language skills. - Preparing course descriptions, programmes, classes and learning materials in accordance with the level and objectives of the group and aligned with the United Nations Language Framework. - Correcting assignments/homework and providing individualized feedback and advice on participants’ progress. - Administering placement tests for the establishment of homogenous groups. - Carrying out the administrative duties directly related to the language teaching, such as maintaining students’ attendance and grading records, and communicating with students as needed. Long Description ---------------- UNESCO is seeking to replenish the pool of part-time teachers. Inclusion in the pool is not a guarantee of work. For pooled teachers who are invited to teach language classes, the contractual arrangements (such as start date and length of contract) will be agreed individually, depending on the specific needs at the time. Part time language teachers will undertake their assignments at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication or education/pedagogy or related area is preferred.
