The IMF is seeking to hire a Language Systems Analyst in the Corporate Services and Facilities Department (CSF). Under the general supervision of the Division Chief in the Language Services division (CSFLS) the Language Systems Analyst maintains technology tools deployed in LS. Primarily, Language Systems Analyst is expected to maintain translation memories, terminology, and provide first-level troubleshooting for Computer Aided Translation (CAT) tool and the Translation Management System (TMS).
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Assist staff with SDL Studio issues and troubleshooting them with language sections and freelancers. Train new staff during onboarding and bring them up to speed with the tool. Work closely with the language sections to propose best practices to bring efficiencies across the division.
- Coordinate terminology-related work with translators and contribute to the development, maintenance, expansion, and management of the IMF’s multilingual terminology databases in accordance with the needs of their users.
- Manage the language technology tools used at the Fund (including testing, upgrading, data migration and troubleshooting) and support IMF translators, editors and their collaborators in the use of these tools, incorporating them into the linguists’ workflow, as well as creating and administering translation memories.
- Monitor the development of, evaluate, and test new language technology tools or software for their usefulness in facilitating the work of IMF linguists and of their collaborators.
- Assist in supporting the IMF’s Translation Management System, Plunet. Provide support to internal staff translators and external freelance translators as needed.
- Assist in supporting neural machine translation tools at the IMF. Analyze various tools, collect test data and related translation memories, coordinate testing with the users, collect test results and continue fine-tuning the MT tools to help meet LS requirements.
Qualifications:
Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of a relevant university degree, supplemented by a minimum of three years of related work experience, or equivalent, is required.
Additionally, below competencies are preferred:
- Prior experience in deploying and maintaining of translation and terminology-related technology.
- Proven experience of practical translation-oriented terminology work or proven experience of support for language technology tools.
- Working experience in CAT, TMS and NMT.
- Working knowledge of SDL Studio and Plunet is desirable.
- Excellent knowledge of terminology management and translation memory software products, such as the SDL suite of translation tools.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- IT skills: good knowledge of standard Microsoft Office applications, in particular Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Crystal Reports and Power BI is a plus.
