You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences is required.
  • Six years of progressive responsible experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Fluency in both oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
  • Full command of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Experience in using an electronic medical record system (Earthmed).

Result of Service

The ultimate result of service is to enhance the health and overall well-being of UN staff and eligible beneficiaries through the delivery of high-quality, ethical, and patient-centered medical care. This will be achieved by ensuring early detection and management of medical conditions, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the multidisciplinary health care approach of the UN Health Care Center. The Laboratory Technician contributions will support the Center’s mission to provide safe, effective, and inclusive medical services in accordance with established standards of excellence

Duties and Responsibilities

The UN Health Care Centre has the responsibility to provide both core and non-core services to all UN staff and eligible dependents in Ethiopia. The core services are provide by the regular staff that include physicians, nurses, ambulance drivers, laboratory services, pharmacy and radiography services. The non-core services also known as curative services are provided by both regular physicians and consultants who are recruited in different fields. The present TOR is intended to guide the Individual Contractor in Laboratory services to ensure client’s satisfaction and respect the organization’s rules and regulation from the health standpoint of view. The objective of this recruitment is to achieve smooth services for clients. The Laboratory Technician will perform the following duties and responsibilities: RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and any designated Officer, the individual contractor will perform the following duties: • Perform technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, stool exam and immunology, parasitology and COVID Test • Report test results following clinic protocols alerting providers and/or nurses about abnormal results. • Ensure to apply international standards in collecting specimens • Ensure appropriate sampling and maintain accurate record keeping of results and materials. • Maintain (preventive) laboratory equipment and supplies • Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test functionality of medical laboratory equipment • Comply with all laboratory policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control • Check all consumable reagents and sample collection materials and order timely • Ensure following of SOPs, Job Aids and Policies of each test • Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications/special skills

Bachlors degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences is required. Six years of progressive responsible experience in a clincal laboratory The work at the clinic requires the use of an electronic medical record system (earthmed). Computer skills: full command of Microsoft applications (word, excel, PowerPoint) and common internet applications will be required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this role, fluency in both oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
