Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Chief of Knowledge Management Section of the UNECA or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Knowledge Management Officer will:

  • Act as a coordinator of the project working with the CMS developers and IT staff configuring the system and library assistants collating the content to ensure the needs of the KMH on COVID-19 are met.
  • Develop the Knowledge management strategy for the hub
  • Be responsible for designing, maintaining and implementing new features and functionality as well as establishing and guiding the website’s architecture ensuring high-performance and availability, and managing all technical aspects of the COVID-19 hub;
  • Develop content covering all the necessary topics and ensuring that it is up to date and accurate and including different knowledge types such as web pages, images, videos, blog posts, articles, reviews, analyses, data and social media on COVID-19 from the African region;
  • Collaborate with various regional UNDS entities to ensure high quality knowledge products on COVID19 are collated and visualized on the hub;
  • Developing methodologies to collect and harmonize usage and impact statistics and providing reports for the knowledge Hub on COVID19;
  • Developing a marketing strategy including Social Media through the development of client-oriented information products and promotional materials to achieve improved awareness and use of UN KH on COVID-19 Hub’s knowledge resources and services.
  • Develop capacity of stakeholders through producing, copy and editing the site build on Drupal and also producing user guides and deliver training.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in knowledge management, information management, or related area to knowledge management; a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with above-mentioned related training and/or professional experience of 15 years may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree;.

Required experience:

Experience remark:

  • Seven (7) to 10 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in Knowledge management, information management, or other relevant programmes; experience with multi-stakeholder knowledge systems is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in policy research as well as social and economic development in Africa, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

  • Experience in website content development is required.
  • Good knowledge on information mapping, HTML and web tools are a necessity.
  • The position requires CMS expertise to produce, copy and edit the site build on Drupal and will produce user guides and deliver training.
