The Consolidating Democratic Dividends for Sustainable Transformation in Kenya Project is a UNDP Kenya project that seeks to support state action and citizen engagement towards realizing improved democratic governance, accountability, respect for the rule of law, access to justice, human rights and gender equality. Project interventions are designed to contribute to national efforts to realisation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 (Gender equality); SDG Goal10 (Reduced inequalities); and SDG Goal 16 (Peace, justice and strong institutions) in line with strategies identified in the Common Chapter, government development priorities outlined in the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2018—2022, which envisages that, By 2022, people in Kenya enjoy improved governance, access to justice, respect for the rule of law, human rights and gender quality.
This UNV assignment is part of UNDP’s initiative to deepen democratic gains to transform democratic governance in Kenya.
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Plan and implement project communications, media, and outreach activities
• Support the development of publications, web articles, flyers, event banners, posters, project fact sheets, brochures, website content, social media share graphics/info graphics, presentations, and other communication products to raise the visibility of the project.
• Create and develop branded products for high-visibility campaigns and outreach
• In liaison with the Communications Unit, develop social media info graphics during each key activity as per the events calendar.
• Assist in planning, promoting, and organizing meetings by preparing substantive presentations while assisting in the day-to-day operations and the preparation of special events in liaison with the Communications Unit.
• Support the development, review, and edit of publications such as the project newsletter, webpage, social media platforms, advisories, talking points and other related ad hoc publications and information materials, articles, press releases in line with corporate branding and the project donor visibility requirements.
• Assist with editorial supervision of video production, including drafting and text editing video feature scripts, participating in editorial meetings, and deciding editorial lines ac-cording to UNDP priorities and needs; suggest approaches to video projects by writing treatments or by evaluating treatments proposed by others.
• Support in podcast production including editing raw audio content and producing final podcast episodes using Adobe Audition (software); creating graphic designs and other communication material to communicate the podcast; Contributing ideas and working to improve the layout and design of promotional materials.
• Develop regular update reports and communication materials for DPs and other project partners and stakeholders.
• Undertake media monitoring, maintain, and disseminate relevant content, publications, articles to project team, CO management and other relevant UN offices.
• Identify story lines for publications and draft substantive articles contributing to public debates to advance project objectives.
• Facilitate knowledge building and knowledge sharing within the project.

The Republic of Kenya is an equatorial nation on the coast of East Africa, neighbouring Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Indian Ocean. Kenya has two levels of Government; National Government and 47 sub-national Governments called Counties. Counties are further divided into sub counties. Kenya is a multi-party state with Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. Kenya’s population of more than 40 million is growing at an annual rate of 2.2%. The country’s GNP per capita estimated at purchasing power parity (PPP) is $975, and the GNP is growing at an average rate of 0.1% annually. More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international poverty line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots and tubers.” (FAO). Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and banking services and educational facilities are readily available. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up-country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN HABITAT and UNEP. The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing security conditions at the place of assignment is modest. The topographic and climatic features of the assignment location is highland cool and warm tropical climate.
