Background

Background/Context

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Communications Team at UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) supports the positioning of women’s empowerment and gender equality as key issues in the region and contributes to establish UN Women role as the global authority in this context. This entails developing and promoting high-quality content, communicating about UN Women’s work through digital and social media and engaging a regional audience online. The Communications Unit seeks to enlist a Junior Social Media and Research Consultant to support the management of ROAP’s social media platforms. The Junior Consultant will assist the Regional Communication Specialist in developing and implementing social media plans, coordinating the development of different online assets, social media videos and social media packages as part of the outreach.

Communications team within the External Relations Unit

The Communications team is one of three functional teams within the External Relations Unit covering regional Resource Mobilization & Partnerships; Advocacy; and Communications at UN Women’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (UN Women ROAP). The Communications team develops strategic communications products to educate, inform, mobilize action, garner interest and raise awareness of UN Women’s Regional Office Asia and the Pacific programming, priorities and activities. The Communications team manages media, UN Women’s online platforms including the ROAP website and social media platforms, and supports Country Offices with their communications efforts, building their capacity through diverse channels.

The consultant will be reporting to the Regional Communications Specialist and will be supported by the Programme Assistant of the External Relations unit, who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.

The Junior Social Media Consultant is responsible for supporting the formulation and implementation of digital communications and advocacy strategies to increase the visibility and awareness of UN Women with partners, the media and the public.

Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Responsibilities /Scope of Work

  • Update of ROAPs social media channels, ensuring consistency with UN Women’s branding and communication guidelines
  • Research, compilation and production of social media analytics reports
  • Management of ROAP’s Trello board, digital archives of design files, databases, and systems relevant to ROAP’s digital presence.
  • Development of social media assets for different ROAP’s initiatives and campaigns
  • Support publicity/outreach for ROAP’s programmes, knowledge-sharing events and promotional opportunities
  • Dissemination of information and publications on ROAP’s social media channels.
  • Coverage of UN Women’s events on social media
  • Any other social media and communication tasks as assigned by supervisor

Functional Competencies:

  • Content Creation: Develop engaging and original content tailored for different social media platforms, including text, images, videos, and infographics.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and Certification:

  • A master’s degree in communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, Marketing, Visual Arts, Design or related fields required.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of progressively responsible work experience in communications design, gender-related content production, journalism, advocacy, or related field preferably with international development organizations.
  • Background in design using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effect, Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Lightroom, Cinema 4D.
  • Experience and knowledge of the use of social media required.
  • Familiarity with Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, Art Directing/Prop Sourcing, Copywriting/Creative writing

Languages:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Thai languages.
