This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.

The Czech Republic and UNDP are long-standing partners with cooperation dating back to the late 1990s and taking a mature institutionalized form of the Czech UNDP Trust Fund since 2003. Since 2004, the Czech-UNDP Trust Fund implemented over 200 technical assistance initiatives in 17 ECIS countries. The total project budget was US$10,000,000. The project was completed in 2018.

The new phase of cooperation under the title “the Czech-UNDP Partnership for SDGs” was launched in 2018. Since 2004, the Czech government and the UNDP in Europe and Central Asia have cooperated to bring best practices and comparative knowledge to countries throughout the region. In 2018, the UNDP and the Czech Republic entered the next stage of collaboration – the Czech-UNDP Partnership for SDGs.

Organizational Context & Project Description:

The main goal of the Czech-UNDP Partnership for SDGs is to bring Czech expertise and innovative solutions for SDGs to partner countries. Since 2020, another 3 partner countries (Zambia, Ethiopia and Cambodia) have been added alongside with Moldova, Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Czech-UNDP Partnership for SDGs thematic priorities have been aligned with UNDP COs priorities to enable further synergies between project initiatives and COs ongoing or planned projects.

Three components of the program include:

Expertise on Demand (according to the local demand, the Czech expertise is implemented in the priority countries) 

Challenge Fund -the Czech Solution for SDGs (Innovative solutions for the priority countries are supported) 

Knowledge management  

Under the overall supervision of the Team Leader of the UNDP IRH Partnership Team and under the direct guidance of the Senior Specialist of the Czech-UNDP Partnership for SDGs, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Support of implementation of the Czech-UNDP Partnership for SDGs project according to Project document; 


Support in preparation, administration and evaluation of the Challenge Fund call for proposals including communication with innovators); 


Responsibility for visibility and communication of Czech-UNDP Partnership for SDGs project including visibility and communication strategy; 


Administration of project website and social media; 


Preparation of articles and other communication material;  


Inputs for reporting, including donor reporting, evaluations;  


Responsibility for Czech-UNDP Partnership for SDGs knowledge management (collecting sorting and analysing project data); 


Contribute to the organization and coordination of meetings;  


Integrates volunteerism and increases the number of UN Volunteer assignments within the Czech-UNDP Partnership in the region; 


Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Previous experience in communication and Media sector will be an asset;  

Experience in outreach and communication to companies, foundations, and individuals as well as private sector fora and platforms will be an asset;  


Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds; 


Excellent drafting skills, experience in writing papers, briefings, articles and with own work published desirable; 


Practical experience of how-to multi-task prioritize and work independently.  


Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others; 


Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills; 


Flexible and open to learning and new experiences; 


Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions 


Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded; 


Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others). 

This assignment is funded by the Government of the Czech Republic and therefore specific criteria apply:

• Candidates must be between 18 and 29 years of age throughout the assignment. • It is a non-family assignment, entitlements related to dependents will not be granted. • Deployment will be in February/March 2022, after the Assignment Preparation Training.

The UN Volunteer will be based in Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey where everything is available including education, health services, accommodation and entertainment. There is a lively and large group of international community. Istanbul airport has direct connections with all European and global cities. Istanbul is a Security level 3 (Moderate) duty station.
