This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

In the context of COVID-19 response, there has been a surge in engaging non-staff personnel as well as to ensure security for WHO personnel with particular focus on those who are on field visits/interventions. Due to this increase in number of personnel, the WHO Country Office (WCO) is conducting a renovation process to improve office space to be greener and to use virtual office tools to support business continuity.

The National UN Volunteer, Junior Officer (Security and HR) will work primarily with the Programme Management and Programme and Administrative Units of WCO Lao PDR. The World Health Organization will be the host agency for the UN Volunteer. The UN Volunteer is also expected to work with relevant implementing partners under the Ministry of Health and other line ministries of Lao PDR under the direction of the Programme and Management Officer of WCO Lao PDR.

The core roles of the position are to support these units in the areas of security, human resources, and finance.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme and Administrative Officer, WCO Lao PDR, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: - Support the security focal persons of the WCO Lao PDR in updating evacuation plan; emergency tree; organizing security trainings; conducting fire drills and other security related issues; - Support the country office with recruitment and onboarding of non-staff positions; - Support the country office to improve e-copy filing with an aim to reduce hard copies and printing; - Support the office with basic ICT service for physical/virtual and hybrid meetings; - Take other relevant tasks as required.

Administration; Programme Management; Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

The National Volunteer is expected to stay in Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR with field visits to provinces when required.
