Overview

Assist in liaising and coordinating FAO activities in Geneva.

You have:

  • University degree in social or political sciences, international relations, public relations or related field relevant to the work of the Organization.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in development work and/or designing and managing projects.
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other official languages of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).

Organizational Setting

The Liaison Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the United Nations at Geneva is responsible for the liaison with the Government of Switzerland, the country's civil society and the International Organizations based in Geneva, Switzerland and with other partners based there. FAO supports the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems, for Better production, Better nutrition, Better environment and Better life, leaving no one behind. Considering the presence of a large number of international organizations, Member States and Non-Governmental Organizations, which provides a significant platform for engagement and partnership with key stakeholders, the Liaison Office i) promotes FAO's contribution to the 2030 Agenda through its 2022-31 Strategic Framework; ii) monitors and informs Geneva-based deliberations to strategically position the Organization in line with its mandate; iii) champions key thematic issues of importance to FAO, its members and partners, leveraging key field work, knowledge, data and statistics of the Organization.

Reporting Lines

The Liaison Specialist reports to the Liaison/Trade Officer and under the overall supervision of Director of the Liaison Office, Geneva, Switzerland

Technical Focus

Coordination of LOG activities with FAO strategic programmes and technical departments.

Tasks and responsibilities

The specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Support FAO LOG’s work on various issues as Trade, One Health, Humanitarian response and resilience building or Nutrition, particularly backstopping the preparation of the relevant dialogues and series and attending/reporting relevant meetings. • Assist LOG Liaison/ Technical Officers with managing the work schedule and follow up with sections on tasks assigned by the Director. • Compile information, collecting data, undertaking analysis, developing briefing and reports. • Support the preparation and participate to technical meetings, conferences, events, seminars and sessions ensuring that FAO priorities and messages are appropriately convey and reports. • Prepare policy briefs and speaking points for the office. • Research and monitor partner information on selected issues related to FAO’s mandate. • Attend specific meetings and events (conferences, symposia, round tables, and seminars) related to FAO’s global mandate. • Perform other duties assigned by the Director to ensure the delivery of the FAOLOG’s programme of work. • Perform any other duties as requested.

Minimum Requirements

• University degree in social or political sciences, international relations, public relations or related field relevant to the work of the Organization. • At least 1 year of relevant experience in development work and /or designing and managing projects, interacting with social partners and with governments, international organisations, research institutions, civil society and the private sector • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other official languages of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) for Consultants. Working knowledge of English for PSA.SBS.
