Background Information - Job-specific

The OQ is seeking to recruit a Junior Legal Researcher to support the work of the Rule of Law team in all aspects of project delivery, including: background research, project communication and outreach, analysis and writing, presentation development, event organization, and any other relevant tasks.

Functional Responsibilities

The Junior Legal Researcher will contribute to the following areas (at the direction of and in full coordination with the Rule of Law Team Director and Advisors):

  1. Research, Analysis, and Writing;
  2. Project Delivery;
  3. Project Communication and Outreach;
  4. Presentation and Communication Support;
  5. Event Organization.

The work is of a highly confidential nature and the Junior Legal Researcher must maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.

V.

Deliverables

The Junior Legal Researcher will deliver their contributions to the following areas:

Research, Analysis, and Writing:

  1. Conduct original research and analysis related to Rule of Law projects, in response to tasking from Director and Advisors. Support Director and Advisors in conducting original and synthesized research.
  2. Monitor, and provide regular updates on, developments in the areas of Rule of Law team focus, in particular related to the Palestinian justice sector.
  3. Obtain, analyse and translate relevant laws and regulations.
  4. Prepare literature reviews and other written inputs; assist in background research and drafting of new research projects; assist in the identification of comparative best practices and translate those into case studies.
  5. Assist the team in drafting reports, papers, briefs, and memos as requested.

Project Delivery

  1. Contribute to project monitoring and evaluation.
  2. Support the development and updating of project documentation, including Gantt charts, presentations, and other tasks relevant to the project(s)

Project Communication and Outreach

  1. Support the team, in preparation for and during internal and external meetings.
  2. Assist in the preparation of a range of written communication documents (such as reports, letters, emails and presentations) for internal and external project stakeholders as needed.
  3. Assist with the organization of meetings, workshops and conferences.

Presentation and Communication Support:

  1. Assist Rule of Law team in developing a variety of presentations; work closely with Advisors to generate document structure, text and graphics, conduct research and analysis, and pull together a compelling set of materials.
  2. Draft and assemble materials for internal and external meetings, as required.
  3. Draft articles or updates for public briefing notes, OQ website, and social media, as required.
  4. Update and maintain relevant pages on OQ’s website, under supervision, as required.
  5. Support preparation of other outreach activities, as required.

Event Organization:

  1. Assist with the organization of meetings, workshops and conferences, as required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in Law is preferable, MA degree might be accepted in lieu and may substitute some years of experience

    Work Experience:

  • A 4 years of work experience(or less depending on accademic accrendtials) in legal affairs through research and/or analysis, preferably with an international organization; similar number of years of work experience with the private sector is also acceptable.

    Skills and Abilities required:

  • Analytical skills

    • Document drafting
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • 1 year experience in Legal Research

    Language Requirements:

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English is required

    • Fluency in Arabic is required
    • Hebrew an advantage

Contract type, level and duration

The contract for this position will be issued by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) on behalf of its Client the Office of Quartet pursuant to an agreement between both parties whereby the successful candidate's contractual rights and responsibilities will be managed by the Office of Quartet (OQ) office and not by UNOPS.

Contract type: Local Individual Contract LICA 6

Contract level: ICS 6/ LICA 6 Contract duration: 3 months with possibility to extend depending on satisfactory performance & availability of funds.
