How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Business Analyst (Head of T4D Section), and in close collaboration with the Coordinator of the Building Resilience in the Sahel Programme (Emergencies Section), the consultant will be primarily responsible for the technical support to the Emergency team and country offices for maintenance of the Resilience in the Sahel Web platform, update of design and content, maintenance and update of dashboards and the design of infographics in support to communication/fundraising efforts when and as required. As such, the consultant will provide any required technical support and the identification as well as early resolution of function issues that may arise.

The consultant will also provide general software support particularly on technical questions related to Power BI and Drupal, and more generally on software development practice and content presentation with Information Management products and Business Intelligence tools.

Scope of Work

The consultant will assume technical expertise and operational responsibilities including the following:

1. Support the Building Resilience in the Sahel Programme:

1.1. Monthly update of the website page on the Resilience in the Sahel Programme, to upload new content

1.2. Monthly update of the Power BI Dashboards, including upload of new data into existing reports, and design of interactive dashboards in response to country offices requests

1.3. Remote support to the development of youth-led podcasts in Mali, Mauritania, and Niger, in close collaboration with the Communication section

1.4. Design of simple brochures, maps, and infographics to communicate on the Programme results

2. Provide technical support for data collection, reporting, building infographics and dashboards:

2.1. Update the regional database with new data received through Country offices HPM tables.

2.2. Update Central Sahel maps & dashboards (with above mentioned new humanitarian data) for briefing notes.

2.3. Answer punctual needs of Coastal countries to design simple infographics in support of their communication/fundraising efforts for preparedness to the Sahel crisis spill over.

  • Preliminary findings – PowerPoint presentation of the architecture of the current BMZ web pages, dashboards and data sources with recommendations delivered to UNICEF

  • Detailed PDF reports explaining indicators calculated, data sources, refresh schedule, business owners and stakeholders of the BMZ dashboards and Central Sahel maps and dashboards delivered to UNICEF

  • User guides and training materials for making youth-led podcasts delivered to UNICEF and stakeholders
    • PDF step-by-step user guide on how to build podcasts with minimum tools and bests practices

    • Build a SharePoint page to centralize resources and documentation
  • Step-by-step user guide in PDF explaining how to manage the BMZ web pages

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Management System, Mathematics, or any relevant field
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g., father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the consultant will report to.

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:

  • Web development: HTML, JavaScript, PHP Frameworks
  • Mastery of techniques related to the development of interfaces
  • Ability to synthesize data into concise reports and present to diverse audiences and listens well to instructions and feedback
  • Planning, production, and publication of audio podcasts
  • Content production for social networks

    Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years in Web development and Microsoft Collaboration Tools

  • Experience managing SharePoint and Yammer platforms or equivalent including experience of content management systems, facilitation, and moderation of online communities
  • Extensive experience working with UNICEF or other UN agencies in a similar context will be preferred
  • Fluency in English and French required. Knowledge of one other UN working language an advantage

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. The candidate may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid).
