This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the general supervision of the Social Policy Specialist (Social Protection) and the guidance of the Chief Social Policy, the National UN Volunteer/Junior Economist (Social Protection) will provide:

  • Supporting the analysis on child and gender sensitive social protection programmes at national as well as sub-national level
  • Supporting the analysis on the COVID-19 impact on socio-economic condition of children
  • Synthesizing researches and studies on social protections for dissemination purpose
  • Supporting the statistical review on existing national survey data

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, Public Finance, and Economic Development.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 2 years of work experience at the national or international level, in the research on social protection, economic development, or public finance;
  • Experience of working in the government, UN or other international development organizations is an asset. Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Excellent oral and written skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in statistical programme.

Language skills:

  • Indonesian(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Macroeconomics and public finance, Public information and reporting

  • Social protection, economics;
  • Strong research and analytical skills are required;
  • Excellent writing/reporting skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; capacity to function effectively in a multicultural team of international and national staff;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in a variety of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal oversight; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity along with or interest in children and social protection, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
