In February 2022, WFP re-established its presence in Ukraine. The WFP Ukraine Country Office is providing food assistance via in-kind food and cash-based transfers (CBT) to affected populations in Ukraine, Since the beginning of the war, WFP has reached up to 3 million people with in-kind and cash assistance per month and will continue responding to Ukrainians in need. WFP continuously monitors the food security situation in Ukraine, to adjust its assistance and accommodate surging needs. WFP is also providing logistics and emergency telecommunications services to the humanitarian community, facilitating the timely provision of assistance.

The Research, Assessment and Monitoring Unit in the Ukraine CO is responsible for undertaking food security needs assessments and economic and market analysis to inform WFP’s operation on household needs and advise on appropriate programme design, as well as for carrying out field monitoring of WFP’s programme activities in Ukraine. The RAM Unit is recruiting a UNV Junior Economist with a strong economics profile to help support the analytical activities of the Unit.

The Junior Economist will support the analytical work of the RAM Unit and report to the Head of RAM. Tasks will primarily center around economic analysis and analysis of household data. Economic analysis may fall both in the micro- and macro-economic domain but with a general focus on price analysis, food security impacts of economic events and household-level needs. Examples of tasks include:

1. Household food security and essential needs analysis: a. Develop data collection tools in accordance with corporate standards b. Carry out data cleaning as well as descriptive and econometric analysis of household survey data on themes such as food security, consumption patterns, income and expenditures, price-elasticities and multi-dimensional poverty c. Draft analytical briefs and present findings in narrative and visual ways

2. Market and economic analysis: a. Coordinate regular collection of market prices with internal and external stakeholders and analyze food price data b. Uploading of food prices on to WFP’s price database; c. Analyse price data, inflation and exchange rate trends d. Develop market assessment materials in accordance with corporate standards and support market data collection and analysis e. Conduct market assessments using WFP’s corporate tools in order to assess market functionality and advice on appropriate modalities of assistance f. Monitor macro-economic outlooks and carry out analysis of the economic situation of Ukraine and how it impacts household food security.

3. Crosscutting RAM activities: a. Support the training of data collectors and field monitors as needed b. Support on assessment concept notes, methodology and analysis plan preparations c. Any other assigned task

statistics, economics, development economics, agricultural economics, or similar relevant discipline.

Coursework/trainings in econometrics, evaluation methods, applied economics, development economics, household economics or other relevant topics is an advantage.

At least one year of experience in an analytical function. Specific experience in one or several of the below topics is required: • Data cleaning and management; • Analysis of household survey data; • Food security analysis; • Market price and time-series analysis; • Macro-economic analysis; • Field data collection and enumerator training; • Quantitative evaluation techniques.

• Excellent command of Excel and either one of STATA, SPSS or R. • Basic visualization skills (such as Tableau) and XML coding skills is an advantage.

As it is a national UN Volunteer's assignment, the volunteer shall organize his/her accommodation by themselves.

Taking into account the current circumstances in the country, telecommuting arrangements can be applied by the Host Entity.

Entitlements of National UN Youth Volunteer – Step 1

The contract lasts for the period indicated in the vacancy with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment.

Allowances: • Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) USD 1227 (equivalent in UAH) is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. This includes Well-Being Differentials for the period while ICSC applies hardship classification to duty stations in Ukraine as “E”.

Medical and life insurance: • Medical insurance: The UN Volunteer and eligible PFU dependents will receive UNV provided medical insurance coverage. Coverage for UN Volunteers begins from the Commencement of Service and normally ceases one month after the last day of the UN Volunteer Contract date. • Life Insurance: UN Volunteers are covered by life insurance for the duration of the UN Volunteer assignment. If a UN Volunteer dies during the UN Volunteer assignment, the eligible designated beneficiaries will be entitled to receive a life insurance lump sum. Leave entitlements: • Annual leave:  UN Volunteers accrue an entitlement to 2.5 days of Annual Leave per completed month of the UN Volunteer assignment. Unused accrued Annual Leave up to a maximum of 30 days is carried over in case of a contract extension within the same UN Volunteer assignment. Unused accrued Annual Leave may not be carried over in case of reassignment or a new assignment. • Learning leave: Subject to supervisor approval and exigencies of service, UN Volunteers may request up to ten working days of Learning Leave per consecutive 12 months of the UN Volunteer assignment, starting with the Commencement of Service date, provided the Learning Leave is used within the contract period • Certified Sick Leave: UN Volunteers are entitled to up to 30 days of certified sick leave based on a 12-month cycle. This amount is reset every 12-month cycle. • Uncertified Sick Leave: UN Volunteers receive seven days of uncertified sick leave working days in a calendar year. This amount will be reset at the established interval period.
