You have:
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in gender studies, human rights, public administration, international relations, law, human resources management, social sciences or a related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ proven experience developing and designing gender related solutions within projects / programmes of moderate complexity is required.
- Experience working on gender, diversity and inclusion-related projects or programmes within the United Nations or similar International Organizations or the public sector at an international level is desirable.
- Experience in data analytics and visualization to support the design of gender and inclusion outreach initiatives is desirable.
- Knowledge or understanding of the UNSMS or UNDSS field operations is also desirable.
- Fluency in oral and written English is required.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the United Nations security management system (UNSMS) globally. As a global leader in security risk management principles, UNDSS enables the safe and effective delivery of United Nations programmes and activities in the most complex and challenging environments, while maximizing precious resources. To this end, the work of the Department is aligned under a clear mission, to enable United Nations system programme activities through trusted security leadership and solutions. Gender equality and inclusivity are essential for UNDSS' operational success, as they are key to providing tailored gender solutions and effective security leadership. Incorporating these principles into the Department’s practices ensures that security services meet the diverse needs of personnel and operations. Within UNDSS, the Gender and Inclusivity Unit (GIU) coordinates and advances the integration of gender equality and inclusivity across security operations through comprehensive gender responsive security and the development of practical gender tools and solutions. The GIU is looking to recruit three specialized consultants (two junior and one senior), through 05 May 2026, to strengthen the inclusion of gender considerations in its field operations in the Indo-Pacific (Myanmar/Thailand/Afghanistan) and the Middle East (Lebanon/Syria) regions. Under the general direction of the Gender and Inclusivity Coordinator, the junior consultant covering the Indo Pacific, working as a team with the senior consultant and the other junior consultant covering the Middle East, will be responsible for the following duties: • Assist in identifying and addressing gaps in the integration of gender and inclusivity approaches into existing security operations and processes in designated locations in the Indo Pacific region; monitor developments and assist in refining methods; • Support in delivering or updating gender-related security products, tools and mechanisms in line with UNDSS Gender Strategy 2024-2028; • Support the development and delivery of context-specific and culturally sensitive briefing modules and trainings on gender equality and inclusivity for field personnel; • Support data collection and analysis, identify emerging needs and challenges, and update key stakeholders as needed; • Participate in field visits to provide gender-related technical support and assist the senior consultant in data collection and report drafting; • Assist with the organization and facilitation of gender and inclusivity-related workshops and other interactive (in person, online or hybrid) sessions as needed; • Contribute to the drafting of background papers, analytical notes and sections of reports as needed.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in gender studies, human rights, public administration, international relations, law, human resources management, social sciences or a related field.
