Overview

Support implementation of environmental strategies and actions within the UN system.

You have:

  • Advanced university degree in environmental studies, international relations and sustainable development or other related subjects is required.
  • A first-level university degree in a relevant field, combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with issues related to environment and sustainable development at the global or UN system level is required.
  • 2 years of experience is required in case of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Proven experience in writing reports, compiling analytical documents, or policy papers is required.
  • Experience working with environmental coordination is desirable.
  • Familiarity with the work of UN agencies on environmental issues is desirable.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is an absolute requirement.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The UN Environment Management Group (EMG) is a UN system-wide coordination body on the environment, promoting system-wide policy coherence, synergy and collaborative and flexible approaches to environmental issues in the United Nations system. The EMG Secretariat is seeking a junior consultant to support the implementation of the EMG’s workplan for 2026-2027 including activities related to system wide environmental approaches, communication and EMG nexus dialogues. The consultant will report to the head of the EMG Secretariat. Specific tasks and responsibilities: • Provide input across the EMG workstreams as required. • Conduct thorough background research and compile and analyse data and information. • Prepare written documents for review of staff, including background documents, meeting summaries, concept notes and reports. • Develop presentations related to the EMG’s work • Organize and plan meetings, events, and webinars. • Develop communication and awareness raising content for online publication.
