You have:

  • A postgraduate degree in communications, arts, social sciences, or development is required.
  • A first-level degree in specified fields combined with two years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in organizing, communication, education, or other public engagement is required.
  • Experience with preparation, organization, and delivering public engagement is required.
  • Experience in holding awareness raising activities and training is desired.
  • Experience in writing, editing and producing written materials incorporating visual elements is desired.
  • Knowledge of the UN system and culture and familiarity with UN interagency networks is desired.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Fluency in oral and written French or Spanish is required.

Result of Service

  1. Members of the Greening the Blue network (i.e., Focal Points from UN system entities) are well informed on the progress of the Greening the Blue initiative through updated and targeted communications. 2. Communication and engagement methods are updated and made more fitting to the needs of Greening the Blue.

Duties and Responsibilities

Sustainable UN is tasked with reporting the UN system’s progress against the objectives identified in the Strategy for Sustainability Management in the United Nations System 2020 – 2030, Phase I: Environmental Sustainability in the Area of Management, which it does via the annual Greening the Blue Report. To further support this task and improve its impact, focused communications, network and knowledge management are needed throughout the year. The existing Greening the Blue campaign and the knowledge management system of the SUN team need regular maintenance to be up-to-date with information renewed regularly via “stories” and tools from the UN system Environmental Sustainability Management efforts collected from over 50 UN entities. The Working Group on Environmental Sustainability and Greening the Blue community, composed of focal points from approximately 60 entities across the UN system, require also ongoing support and engagement through activities such as meetings, newsletters, MS Teams space, and general liaison and support in the spirit of good practice sharing and transparency in reporting. Further, to ensure the Sustainable UN team continues to provide effective supports for the focal points, a review of its activities with actionable suggestions for improvements, is required. The objective of the contract is to improve engagement of UN focal points with the SUN team and overall support the mission of SUN and Greening the Blue. Under the supervision of the coordination officer, the incumbent will be responsible for: 1. Taking meeting minutes and organizing virtual and hybrid meetings with the Greening the Blue Community UN sustainability focal points meetings. 2. Maintaining up-to-date and well managed contact lists of Focal Points, including access to appropriate general Greening the Blue community spaces (Teams, Data Platform, Websites) 3. Preparing an impact report outlining the results from monthly/bi-monthly newsletters to the Greening the Blue community 4. Drafting three completed news stories from interviews with Focal Points. 5. Preparing a report outlining the support provided to the SUN team on the Annual GtB report as well as other publications and resources.

Qualifications/special skills

A postgraduate degree in communications, arts, and social sciences, or development. A first-level degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree) in the specified fields of studies, combined with an additional two years of relevant work experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. A minimum of two years of experience in organizing, communication, education, or other public engagement is required. Experience with preparation, organization, and delivering public engagement via teaching, educational outreach or other means is required. Experience in holding awareness raising activities and training is desired. Experience in writing, editing and producing written materials with the incorporation of visual elements is desired. Knowledge of the UN system and culture and familiarity with UN interagency networks is desired.

Languages
