Result of Service 1. Drafted, edited, provided layout adjustments, and online promotion of the Plastic is Forever coffee table book with the below technical specifications:

a) Specified drafting and editing tasks: - Foreword by BRS Secretariat Executive Secretary. - Guest preface entry by a high-level figure. - Text on the mandate and work of the BRS Secretariat, specifically with respect to plastic waste management and the role and mission of the PWP. - Text on the origins and objective of the PWP photography competition, including quotes by finalists. b) Layout: - Title: In Pictures: Plastic is Forever (English only). - Size: oversized (larger than 8.5¿ x 11¿). - A0 or A2 publication. - Up to 100 pages interior (recto-verso). Format: 420 x 594 mm. c) Promotion: - Promotion of the Plastic is Forever coffee table book on social media channels.

2. Serve as a moderator during the BRS COPs Plastics Waste Forum, which includes 15 events in hybrid format (face-to-face and online), by facilitating the introduction of participants, encouraging robust discussion of items under the agenda, maintaining order throughout the proceedings and ensuring that the interactions remain within the identified topic;

3. Undertake BRS COPs Media Room activities by interviewing a minimum of seven participants on and off camera, and by producing a minimum of four short introductory videos for selected meetings during the period 6 to 17 June 2022.

Work Location Home-based and Geneva (for the Forum)

Expected duration The consultant will work for fifty (50) days within the period of 26 April to 30 July 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities The Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS Secretariat) brings together the three leading multilateral environmental agreements that share the common objective of protecting human health and the environment from hazardous chemicals and wastes.

The meetings of the Conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS COPs) will take place from 7 to 16 June 2022, in Geneva, Switzerland. During the 2022 BRS COPs, the Secretariat is organizing a Plastics Waste Forum (hybrid format), which will feature activities related to plastics waste pollution.

The Basel Convention Plastic Waste Partnership (PWP) was established in 2020 to advance public-private sector collaboration, and strengthen policy and regulatory frameworks, which support the environmentally sound management of plastic waste. The PWP organised a photography competition to highlight the impact of plastic waste on the environment and on human lives.

“Plastic is Forever” is an international outreach campaign developed by the BRS Secretariat to raise awareness of the actions to address plastics waste under the Basel Convention. As part of the campaign, the Secretariat plans to publish a coffee table book that will feature the finalist photographs from the PWP photography competition, which was organized in 2021.

A consultant is needed by the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions to support with: 1. the drafting, editing, layout adjustment, and promotion of the Plastic is Forever coffee table book; 2. moderating the BRS COPs Plastics Waste Forum; 3. undertaking BRS COPs Media Room activities.

Qualifications/special skills Academic qualifications: Advanced University degree (Master's or equivalent) in the field of communications, journalism, public affairs, public relations, public advocacy, environmental management or other related fields; or a Bachelor's degree in combination with 2 (two) additional years of relevant professional experience; or High School Diploma or Vocational Diploma in combination with 4 (four) additional years of relevant professional experience, is required."

Experience: - At least seven years of experience in communications, journalism, or related area is required. - Demonstrable experience in moderating high-level events within the United Nations is required. - Knowledge of chemicals and waste, plastics waste and marine litter issues is highly desirable.

Language: Fluency (both spoken and written) in English is required. Advanced knowledge of another UN language is a strong asset.
