Job Overview: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. Established in 1975, the IRC in San Diego has supported over 30,000 refugees from 29 countries to make their new home in San Diego. Today, the IRC in San Diego continues to serve refugees as well as the larger community of new Americans including Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders, asylees and asylum seekers, and other immigrants. Increasingly, IRC programs also serve small business owners and others seeking economic empowerment services in San Diego.

What is AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps is a voluntary civil society program supported by the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations, and other donors by engaging adults in public service work, with a goal of helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. "The program is often seen as the domestic Peace Corps.” Members commit to full-time positions of completing 1700 hours during an 11-month contract.

Training: Members will participate in agency training activities to increase their knowledge, skills, and abilities for delivering client services. Attend AmeriCorps training sessions and participate with AmeriCorps service projects. Members will experience personal growth including professional skill development and work experiences.

Qualifications

IRC San Diego Placement Overview:

Major Responsibilities: The Job Training Coordinator will support the Job Training and Application Lab JTAL at the IRC San Diego offices located in the City of El Cajon. JTAL is part of IRC’s Center for Financial Opportunity (CFO), which aims to help clients prepare to move into the workforce. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Leading the coordination and facilitation of job readiness activities, such as resume preparation, digital literacy, job search, and job application submission through recruitment and supervision of JTAL volunteers; · Recruiting and managing volunteers to provide job readiness support to clients, as well as providing direct support to clients; · Teaching work readiness and digital literacy classes to help clients bolster and important job readiness skills; · Other duties as assigned.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies: · Desire and ability to work with a diverse group of people, particularly those living in low-income distressed neighborhoods · Ability to work independently and in a team environment · Computer skills · Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in Arabic, Farsi, Pashto, Ukrainian spoken by client group is desired. · Ability to work a flexible schedule (some night and weekends may be required) · Bachelor's degree preferred · Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes. · Experience in mentoring or teaching a plus

Working Environment: · Standard office environment, including the current hybrid mode of remote work within San Diego County and required in-office days, and some ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. Office working environment is subject to change based on organization/business need. · May require occasional weekend and/or evening work. · Offices hours are scheduled as Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm.
