ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. On average, WFP reaches more than 90 million people with food assistance in 80 countries each year.

WFP’s operation in the UAE was established in 2001 and has since become a crucial base for global humanitarian operations, supporting the emergency preparedness and fast intervention activities of both WFP and its humanitarian partners. The strategic location of the UAE, world-class logistics infrastructure, supportive host government and access to huge supplier markets makes WFP in the UAE ideally situated to deliver critical aid services to operations around the world.

Dubai procurement office needs to implement a procurement tracking software that was developed in WFP South Sudan. The process workflow for the software (and the relevant code) need to be tailored to suite Dubai procurement specific requirements. Once this customization is completed, there will be need for testing and debugging, and the software will need to be installed on a server before go-live. It is expected that some final adjustments will be required after the software is operational, including customization of ad-hoc reports for procurement management and clients.

JOB PURPOSE

Job Title: IT Solutions Assistant

Level: SC 5

Salary: Starting from AED 13,216.26 per month (inclusive of pension), plus medical insurance and other entitlements.

Duration of Employment: 12 months with possibility of extension

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Supply Chain Manager, based in Dubai-UAE, the incumbent will be responsible for following duties:

  1. Customize the program code in order to support the development and implementation of efficient and effective IT solution components.
  2. Keep up-to-date technical systems documentation for developed IT solutions in order to support systems maintenance.
  3. Perform unit and integrated testing of new, enhanced or fixed code in order to ensure completeness and adherence to technical specifications.
  4. Assist in the installation, configuration and customization of IT systems ensuring compliance with WFP’s IT standards, guidelines and procedures.
  5. Assist in the release of IT systems and provide early life support in order to prepare for and enable proper use of the IT solution.
  6. Resolve user queries independently, escalating if required, to ensure that standard IT questions are answered and accurate information is provided.
  7. Assist in the preparation of materials and the delivery of trainings on automated business processes to ensure efficient and effective use of IT systems.
  8. Collect and collate data, conduct basic analysis to support the development of accurate reports.
  9. Act as focal point for vendor management, collecting information from suppliers and ensuring that the database and relevant suppliers’ documents are up to date.
  10. Prepare documents for the approval of new vendors.
  11. Perform other related duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. Bachelor’s degree level in the related functional area is preferable.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of working experience in Bootstrap, PHP, MySQL, Java Script, Zend 3, Postgre SQL, HTML/CSS or another related field.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Academic or professional experience in computer science.
  • Has experience resolving level 1 IT issues.
  • Working knowledge of Tableau, Python.
  • Experience with development of software.
