At WFP, we are looking for an experienced IT Operations Officer (Infrastructure & Networking) to be based in Khartoum, Sudan, tobe hired on a Fixted Term Contract at the NOB level.

WFP Sudan, one of the largest and complex operations for WFP globally, is currentlyrolling out its five-year Country Strategic Plan (2019-2023), which aims to provide emergency assistance througha hybrid approach (Cash, food and vouchers), along with life-changing types of programmes (Nutrition, Resilienceand School Feeding).

JOB PURPOSE

To deliver efficient and effective IT and Telecommunications (TC) services, contributing to sound, innovative solutions that enable staff to deliver food assistance to beneficiaries, in line with WFP’s strategy.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Manage the Infrastructure and Networking team to enable an excellent service to customers and compliance with corporate guidelines.
  • Oversee the country office migration to a new VSAT network and new connectivity management platform (SD-WAN)
  • Review, design and implement a cybersecurity strategy in line with Corporate IT Security strategy
  • Review and create a Data Center optimization strategy at the CO, aiming at optimizing IT resources and cutting expenditure costs
  • Review existing installation and, design and implement improvements to support an excellent operation.
  • Conduct regular maintenances, upgrades or enhancements of existing network and Data Center systems and applications
  • Assess related training needs for staff and help develop appropriate training material;
  • Manage and coordinate a team of IT support staff including the capacity building of staff, to ensure individual and team objectives are met.

ADDITIONAL KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide training and advice to colleagues and end users of IT services,
  • Proactively anticipate, resolve issues and ensure IT policies, procedures, systems and tools are correctly applied to assist WFP staff in conducting their work.
  • Oversee the maintenance of systems and hardware by junior technology assistants to ensure technology is running effectively for WFP staff.
  • Develop and deploy a variety of documentation and equipment for use by WFP staff to ensure staff have access to the required IT services and products.
  • Manage the implementation of new standard applications in order to provide WFP staff with the tools they need to perform effectively.
  • Work with groups in IT service delivery and other staff to understand needs and support the development of integrated IT support services.
  • Design, implement and Support the development and implementation of plans for the delivery of a full range of IT services and improvements to methods and processes in order to meet operational requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as required

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced University degree in Computer Science or other related field or First University degree in Computer Science or other related field with additional years of related work esperience and/ortraining/courses

Certification on CISCO networking, infrastructure and security (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, etc.)

Experience : A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in Computer Science or related fields is required for holders of an advanced university degree, or five years of relevantprofessional experience in Computer Science or related fields is required forholders of a first university degree. Additional years of experience and training will be an advantage.

Language: Fluency in both English and Arabic.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in the planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of IT networking systems and Data center services.

  • Proven effective, hands-on networking experience in installing IT networks (Cabling, Routers, Access Points, Firewalls, Internet connections, VSATs), Telecommunications (PBX Systems, Voice Communications).

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

• Has coordinated and managed small or medium projects at both field and country level. • Has assisted in change management procedures, activities and processes. • Has successfully performed installation or testing of new hardware for improving or upgrading systems performance. • Has proven experience analyzing service management results and developing service enhancement recommendations. • Has keen ground-level experience implementing IT and telecoms systems in emergencies.
