Note: Egyptian nationals/citizens or candidates with valid Egyptian work permit / residency are eligible to apply. This vacancy will also be used to build a roster for IT Operations Assistants in WFP Egypt.

JOB PURPOSE

To deliver high quality technical support, system and data maintenance across a range of areas, in order to contribute to the effective delivery of IT services in the Regional Office for the World Food Programme. To deliver standard software and hardware support services, as well as monitor and maintain a wide range of information sources, to contribute to the effective delivery of IT services.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Carry-out system and equipment maintenance tasks, such as back-up system data and system protection, to ensure they are running effectively and enable easy and efficient use.
  2. Receive and inspect all incoming assets and report discrepancies in IT materials inventory to senior colleagues to ensure materials are effectively tracked.
  3. Undertake basic monitoring and troubleshooting of server systems to ensure a consistent delivery of IT services to staff.
  4. Respond to basic queries about technology and systems to support the correct application of technology.
  5. Ensure information is up to date and accurate within inventories, databases, websites, and archives in order to support senior officers in managing these systems.
  6. With direction from senior colleagues, collate information to be included in standard material such as training documentation and web content, to contribute to the availability of information about services and products.
  7. Follow set emergency response processes and procedures as required to provide support in enabling emergency food assistance needs to be met.
  8. Support the overall Procurement and Logistical needs within the IT unit, including Review, record and track purchasing requests, ensuring all supporting documentation is available in order to enable the procurement of goods and services.
  9. Ensure information is up to date and accurate within the Telephone Management system in order to keep track of mobile lines and mobile services assigned to WFP staff.
  10. Carry out inventory tasks for all IT equipment, such as performing annual physical count, recording new equipment, create loan forms, create disposal lists and keep track of IT equipment using inventory databases.
  11. Monitor Help Desk system, forward requests to responsible IT colleagues and close the tickets ensuring that tasks are delivered to agreed standards and deadlines.
  12. Any other relevant tasks.

Technical Expertise Continuously updates one’s own knowledge about new technologies and product modifications; Is sought out for advice/expertise and recognized internally as an important technical reference. Service Management Understands and follows the established standards and protocols for service excellence within own domain to maintain quality of delivery and high levels of customer satisfaction. Client Management Exhibits a detailed understanding of customers’ IT requests in order to effectively address and manage internal customers ‘needs. Identifies recurrent issues to propose long-term solutions. Procurement and Contract Management Assists in the technology selection process by collating information on vendors and/or products for evaluation against criteria.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

A university degree in computer science, engineering, computer information systems or a similar related field. Certification in respective area of technical skills such as ITIL Service Management is preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar position.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong customer-oriented, and problem-handling skills
  • Strong Technical experience in IT foundational services, and good experience in IT infrastructure equipment and services.
  • Wide knowledge with strong practical experience in IT equipment inventory systems.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team, strong time management, planning, and reporting skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Languages:

  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station (English and Arabic).
