Duties and Responsibilities
The second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) held in Tunis on 16-18 November 2005, requested the Secretary-General, amongst other, to convene “a new forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue – the Internet Governance Forum (IGF)''. The mandate of the IGF, set out in Paragraph 72 of the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society is to discuss the main public policy issues related to Internet governance in order to foster the sustainability, robustness, security, stability and development of the Internet.
This internship is located in the IGF Secretariat based in the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG). The intern will support the team in the technical facilitation and further development of the annual IGF meeting and IGF intersessional activities including capacity development.
The intern's tasks will include:
- Providing technical support to the IGF’s IT systems, such as the interactive scheduling system bilateral room reservation system and remote participation setup - Supporting technical actions on the IGF website functions and design - Supporting the functioning of the IGF web application - Proposing design and technical implementation of the social media campaign - Supporting delivery of training for remote participation support staff - Compiling annual participation statistics and media analysis - Other technical assistance during the annual meeting - Creating, implementing and analysing surveys and polls in support of the intersessional work and national and regional IGF initiatives - Supporting interface design or layout of the final IGF output documents.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants should have knowledge of Drupal and Content Management System management. Knowledge of CD/CI process is also an advantage. Applicants should have knowledge of PHP, SQL. Any other programming language is an advantage. Knowledge of and mobile app development (Xamarin) is also an advantage.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
