Overview

Develop and complete front end of cbd.int website redesign.

You have:

Duties and Responsibilities

Organizational setting The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. At the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, world leaders agreed on a comprehensive strategy for 'sustainable development'. The Convention on Biological Diversity was opened for signature in Rio in 1992. The Convention has three main objectives: the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components, and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the use of genetic resources. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) is located in Montreal and is administered by the United Nations Environment Programme. Its main tasks are to arrange for and service meetings of the Conference of the Parties, including preparation of pertinent documentation, operation of the central node of the clearing-house mechanism, liaison and coordination with other international bodies and processes and, in close collaboration with these partners, the provision of technical support for the effective implementation of the Convention. In its decision 16/9 paragraph 11 (c), the Conference of Parties requested the Executive Secretary to further develop and strengthen the central portal of the clearing-house mechanism, including through the improvement of the accessibility of relevant information, in line with the programme of work for the clearing-house mechanism. Also, its decision 16/9 paragraph 11 (e), to further improve the Convention website and ensure that the content is available in all six official languages of the United Nations. Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the Head, IT, and the direct supervision of the Information Systems Officer, the individual contractor will perform the following duties: • Front end development of the redesign of the cbd.int website using the SCBD technology stack. • Develop the provided design of the cbd.int website from Figma design files and other documentation to produce a working version of the CBD.int website.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is required. Academic degree in Computer science, Information Communication Technology or related fields is desirable. Working Experience At least five years of experience in web development is required. Solid understanding of the concepts of user experience (UX), user interface design principles and conceptual design is required. Expert knowledge in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, knowledge of Bootstrap, jQuery and AngularJS/Vue 3/React, REST API is required. Proven experience in the development of web applications, design and technical implementation of user interfaces in a web-based environment is desirable. Skills required: • Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team • Confident in producing work across multiple platforms • Able to align multiple strategies and ideas • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently Competencies required: Communication, Teamwork and Planning and Organizing

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is desirable. NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.
