This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

• As an active UNITAD team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to Field Investigation 5 of UNITAD and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • Successfully complete and register screenings of identified witnesses according to internal SOPs; • Trust-based, strong relationships with the relevant counterparts established and maintained over time; • As a result of evidence reviews, documents relevant to the investigation and evidence gaps are identified and followed up on; • Builds strong working relationships with other team members, with teamwork resulting in concrete positive results for the unit; • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment; • UNITAD has a number of National UNVs in its team. Their work, expertise, knowledge of the specific context and commitment to accountability for ISIL crimes in Iraq have all led to important achievements to the teams that they are assigned to, while also providing them with a unique experience in the field of international investigations.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Investigator/Team Leader of FIU5 or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Investigations Assistant will:

• Assist in identifying potential victims and witnesses of ISIL crimes; • Assist in the preparation of witness interviews by establishing contact and undertaking on-going liaison in furtherance of investigative activities; • Under the supervision of investigators, participate in screenings of potential witnesses; • Review internal holdings to identify evidence potentially relevant to the team’s investigation; • Provide advice to the investigative team on community dynamics; cultural and religious traditions and political dynamics; and recommend approaches for engaging with the Christian community. • Liaise closely and support the team to maintain effective channels of communication with a wide range of stakeholders from Christian communities, including NGOs and civil society, religious leaders, political representatives, and victims/family groups of Daesh crimes. • Assist in the organization of meetings with representatives of Christian communities in coordination with the investigative team by preparing presentations, identifying and inviting participants, and providing interpretation; • Assist the investigative team in the drafting of summaries and reports, and other documents; • Provide translation of documents as needed; • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

• Required Experience: 5 years • An advanced first level university degree in law, politics, international relations, social sciences, management or a related field is required.

• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in community liaison, community outreach, access to justice, and/or human rights is required.

• Demonstrable experience in working with the Christian community in Iraq is a strong advantage. Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.

• Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

• Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;

• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint and MS Teams is required. Knowledge of eDiscovery systems, including Relativity, is desired.

This position is based in Erbil, a vibrant, multi-cultural city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Overall the security situation is stable, and staff do not face any security restrictions in terms of movement. A wide-range of accommodation options is available, with water, electricity and other utilities being ready available. Similarly, banking facilities, supermarkets, and other such facilities are widely available. Erbil has an international airport that serves a large number of destinations in the region and staff can easily move in the city using taxis and Uber, which have been cleared by UN Security.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
