Manage interpreters and ensure quality interpretation services

You have:

  • Master's Degree in interpreting or equivalent from a recognized University
  • 10 years’ experience as a full-fledged conference interpreter
  • Fluent in both English and French
  • Relevant experience in WHO or another UN agency an asset
  • Experience in hiring and managing freelance conference interpreters is an additional asset
  • Mother tongue: one or more languages of the WHO 6 official languages
  • Knowledge of IT tools: Word; Microsoft Office; GSM; Excel

Contract

This is a P-4 contract. This kind of contract is known as Professional and Director staff. It is normally internationally recruited only. It's a staff contract. It usually requires 7 years of experience, depending on education.

Salary

The salary for this job should be between 169,932 USD and 219,092 USD.

Salary for a P-4 contract in Geneva

The international rate of 90,970 USD, with an additional 86.8% (post adjustment) at this the location, applies. Please note that depending on the location, a higher post adjustment might still result in a lower purchasing power.

Assigned Duties:

Under the direct supervision and instructions of the Chief interpreter, to:

  • Identify interpreters with due regard to quality and language combination
  • Manage interpreters work and prepare daily assignments program
  • Advise event organizers on most costefficient use of interpretation capacity
  • Act for the Chief interpreter when the Chief interpreter is on leave
  • Work in the booth when managerial work permits
  • Undertake other assignments as needed for the smooth running of the interpretation service

Education:

Master’s Degree in interpreting or equivalent from a recognized University

Essential Experience:

  • 10 years’ experience as a full-fledged conference interpreter

Relevant experience in WHO or another UN agency an asset.

Languages:

  • Mother tongue: one or more languages of the WHO 6 official languages
  • Fluent in both English and French

IT tools:

Word; Microsoft Office; GSM; Excel.

Skills:

The incumbent should be a good team player, serious, conscientious, hard worker, well-organized and able to build a trust-based relationship with WHO staff and short-term conference interpreters. The incumbent should also be able to multitask and work independently when required.

Another 60 days contract may be offered subject to funding, continued need of functions and performance.
