Contract

This is a DRC - National contract. More about DRC - National contracts.

Climate change is the defining crisis of our time and disproportionately impacts the world’s most vulnerable people. Thus, DRC is in the middle of a green transition affecting our work across the organisation and throughout our programmatic operations in the field. If you want to take part in this exciting process, DRC’s Programme Innovation and Business Engagement team (PIBE) is the right place for you.

Who are we?

The PIBE team works to promote innovation throughout the organization and develop strategic partnerships for the achievement of DRC’s strategic objectives. We are a small and dynamic team, and we work with a wide range of colleagues, in HQ and across our regional offices and country programmes, and with external partners, in civil society, academia, the private sector and others.

About the internship

DRC is committed to respond to the global climate crisis and environmental degradation by increasing the adaptive capacities of people affected by conflict and displacement and to ensuring that our own conduct is nature positive. Read more about DRC’s Climate work at drc.ngo/climate

DRC must address climate change systematically and ambitiously to address the current trends and outlooks, and you will be part of this process. Some of the tasks include:

  • Support the green transition at the DRC offices (HQs and field level), with the aim to roll out green office plans throughout the 40 DRC country operations. This includes sensitization of how to operate in accordance with a stronger climate and environmental conduct as well as support to developing and rolling out initiatives directly at DRC HQs in Borgergade.
  • Support transition from ad hoc to more systematic mainstreaming of climate action in DRC’s organisation, programmes and partnerships, to enable that climate and climate-related environmental considerations should be systematically integrated into the very core of the organisations’ DNA and our mandated humanitarian response work. As such, the existing mainstreaming analysis from 2021 must be updated to get a status of the progress and gaps.
  • Support a learning process on the green transition taking place throughout DRC country programmes and operations including supporting drafting of internal communication and external publications in collaboration with field colleagues.
  • Data collection on specific climate and environmental issues to support the green learning process and green transition.

We offer flexibility in the type of tasks, so you also have the possibility to influence the tasks, subject to what is relevant for your study programme.

About you

To be successful in this role it is key that you:

  • have an interest in humanitarian assistance and development, as well as climate and environment issues,
  • are fluent, both written and spoken English
  • possess strong IT skills and competent navigation on digital platforms
  • have great interpersonal and communication skills

All employees and interns in DRC should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity.

We imagine that your studies focus on issues related to the above, however we are glad to be challenged by other academic approaches.

It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university in order to be considered for the internship.

We offer

Contract length: 4-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue

Workplace: DRC Headquarters located Borgergade 10, Copenhagen

Start date: around mid-August. We can be flexible on the start date but prefer if you join no later than 1 September 2022 so that you can participate in our introduction programme for all new interns

Working hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship.

The internship is not paid but we offer:

  • 2,08 (unpaid) vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated
  • Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open)
  • Free participation in our year-end party

Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it if selected for the internship. DRC does not cover the costs related to your application for a work permit.

Application process

All applicants must send a cover letter, an updated CV in English as well as documentation that you are enrolled in a university. If you are applying for more than one internship with DRC, please indicate so in your cover letter. Apply online on our page Current Vacancies at www.drc.ngo.

Closing date for applications: 1 May 2022. We expect to conduct interviews on 10 and 11 May 2022 in Copenhagen or virtually.
